he chairman of the US House judiciary committee has said that it has agreed to hear testimony from special counsel Robert Mueller at a date yet to be determined, Reuters news agency reported.

Representative Jerry Nadler told reporters the agreement was for Mueller to testify sometime in May. Nadler’s committee is seeking to question Mueller on his investigation into Russian election interference in 2016 and possible attempts by Donald Trump to impede the investigation.

Mueller recently wrote a letter to the US attorney general, William Barr, expressing frustration with how Barr characterized the conclusions of his investigation into potential ties between Trump’s presidential campaign and Russia.

Mueller concluded his investigation last month and delivered a final report to Barr, spanning more than more than 400 pages. Mueller’s report, which was made public on 18 April, revealed nearly a dozen instances in which the actions of the president and his campaign may have amounted to obstruction. The report also stated that the Trump campaign was “receptive” to assistance from Moscow during the 2016 election and expected to benefit from Russian interference.

But in a letter released on 24 March – before the report came out – Barr cited Mueller’s conclusion that there was no criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Moscow and declared he did not believe there was sufficient evidence to charge Trump with obstruction of justice.

Meanwhile, the top Democrat on the Senate judiciary committee requested that the panel also hold a hearing with Mueller. The California senator Dianne Feinstein said on Wednesday that she had asked the Republican committee chairman, Senator Lindsey Graham, to invite Mueller to testify. However, Graham has said he does not think the special counsel needs to appear.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Now this will be the World Series of congressional hearings. Mueller has been the center of the maelstrom for two years and yet no one has heard a word from his own mouth.

Democrats are pissed because he let them down with his Report. Republicans are pissed because he continued the palace coup initiated by Comey, Rosenstein, Strzok, and others in the FBI, CIA, and DOJ. He will be assaulted from both sides.

Mueller has a somewhat long track record of appearing before congress. You can see many of these on YouTube. He is very contemptuous of members of congress. He never tells them anything. He may not get away with that this time. It is going to be a very ugly hearing. Personally, I think Mueller finally deserves this. His record as a special prosecutor is horrific. There's no doubt in my mind that he knew from the first week on the job that the allegation of a Trump-Russia conspiracy were false and a frame up. But he continued anyway, ruining the lives of many people and fueling a hysteria in the media. The long term damage to the nation of the Mueller Probe is overwhelming. I really don't see US media ever recovering. The DOJ and FBI, too.
