orrifying news— Jussie Smollett is reportedly hospitalized in Chicago following a possible hate crime.

The Chicago Police Department released a statement concerning “a cast member of the television show, Empire” regarding an assault and battery incident.

According to TMZ, two white men in ski masks reportedly approached the 35-year-old actor late Monday, yelled out racial and homophobic slurs (“Aren’t you that faggot Empire nigger?”), then began to attack him with an unknown chemical substance.

Before fleeing the scene, one of the men wrapped a rope around Smollett’s neck, as if forming a noose. They then yelled, “This is MAGA country.”

Sources via ThatGrapeJuice.net also claim the Empire actor recently received a threatening letter in the mail with “You will die black fag,” written in disturbing ransom-style cutout letters.

TMZ confirmed Smollett received treatment at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and has since been released. He is currently in good condition.

“The terror of racism and homophobia has no place in our society, it is the most indecent way to live,” Strong tweeted on Tuesday. “Whoever did this, do not forget that you are nothing but hate filled cowards while Jussie’s talent and activism will continue to shine a bright light on to the world for decades to come.”

Additionally, several celebrities have taken to social media to express their support, including Lena Waithe and Justin Simien, and Kerry Washington.
