Putin Says Russia Ready to Deploy New Hypersonic Nuclear Missile

resident Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia would deploy its first regiment of hypersonic nuclear-capable missiles next year, saying the move meant his country now had a new type of strategic weapon.

Putin was speaking after overseeing what the Kremlin said was a pre-deployment test of the new missile system, called Avangard.

"This test, which has just finished, ended with complete success," Putin told a government meeting.

"From next year, 2019, Russia's armed forces will get the new intercontinental strategic system Avangard ... It's a big moment in the life of the armed forces and in the life of the country. Russia has obtained a new type of strategic weapon."

Russia has said the new missile system, one of several new weapons Putin announced in March, is highly maneuverable, allowing it to easily evade missile defense systems.

Putin remotely observed Wednesday's test from a Russian defense ministry building in Moscow. The Kremlin described the test in a statement, saying that an Avangard missile, launched from a location in south-west Russia, had successfully hit and destroyed a target in the Russian Far East.

Putin announced an array of new weapons in March, including the Avangard, in one of his most bellicose speeches in years, saying they could hit almost any point in the world and evade a U.S.-built missile shield.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

This is sad. It is terrible to see any nation spend money on nuclear weapons when there are human needs going unmet. The New Cold War declared by Obama and Hillary more than 6 years ago is now in full phase.

The irony is that the US has been spending its money on brick and mortar ground bases that encircle Russia and China. The US is following a medieval war strategy of encircling an enemy. Russia is following an ultra-modern strategy of building missiles that can fly 20,000 miles per hour and cannot be challenged by anything.

It is only a matter of time before both nations bankrupt themselves in building and buying weapons. When the US begins to develop its own version of these hypersonic missiles it will spend many, many trillions of dollars because they will be developed by for-profit, private corporations. They won't work and they may never be deployed.

This is all just a tragedy for the people of the world. These missiles will stop the US from expanding its wars on to the territories of Russia or China, but they will ramp up wars in smaller nations.

Russia is in no way hostile to the United States, but Russia can defend itself against aggression. U.S. might pause to reconsider its rush to war against Russia, with its phony Russiagate hype in the deep state media to incite hate in the tv-watching masses. But it won't, because the interests of the oligarchs who control public opinion and military spending are the opposite of the interests of the United States.
