Trump to Preside Over UN Security Council, Prompting Anxiety All Around

hree weeks from now, in New York, President Trump will find himself in the setting he most relishes: seated at the head of a polished table, calling on those seated around him, rewarding those he likes and cutting off those who displease him.

It is not a revival of “The Apprentice,” or even a meeting of his cabinet. Mr. Trump will be presiding at the United Nations Security Council, a rotating role that falls to the United States this month. His star turn is prompting anxiety among people, inside and outside the administration, who worry that the president will bring reality-TV antics to the world stage.

Exercising the prerogative of the chairman, Mr. Trump plans to focus on Iran and its malign activity around the Middle East. European diplomats said they fear that this will only underscore the disunity of the West, given the unpopularity of Mr. Trump’s decision to pull the United States out of the Iran nuclear deal.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Given his horrible performance at the UN last year, this is really ominous. Trump has no sense for diplomacy. But maybe he will now be on better terms with N. Korea and Russia. At least that will be something good. I really don't care about his spat with Theresa May and the UK. Didn't we fight a war to get the fuck away from them?

I fear most that Netanyahoo will be there with his arm and hand way up Trump's ass working him like a ventriloquist's dummy.

"Didn't we fight a war to get the fuck away from them?" For sure #RR. And we fought another war at the UK's side to defeat Naziism. Do you have an actual point about US - UK relations buried somewhere in your comment? If so, I'd like to see it spelled out a bit.

Just as Netanyahoo wrote in Trump's inaugural address:

"The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans (Israelis)."

"Subsidized the armies of other countries (except Israel's) while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military..."

"From this moment on, it’s going to be America (Israel) First."

We don't even have to read between the words to find the Netanyahooism in Trump's address to the 2016 AIPAC:

"Which brings me to my next point, the utter weakness and incompetence of the United Nations.

(CHEERS, APPLAUSE)

The United Nations is not a friend of democracy, it’s not a friend to freedom, it’s not a friend even to the United States of America where, as you know, it has its home. And it surely is not a friend to Israel."

The phrase "...as you know...", so often used by Donald Trump, has been identified by some psychologists as really meaning "I just found out".

Who's brilliant idea was this? The best outcome would be for all the other participants to boycott the session.
