Al Gore Has a Simple Message for Donald Trump: Resign

Al Gore also discussed Trump’s environmental policies with a Fox affiliate in Los Angeles

hat a difference two years makes.

Al Gore, the former vice president and Democratic presidential candidate, just publicly called for President Donald Trump to resign — after initially meeting with the incoming president at Trump Tower in 2017 to discuss the environment.

The Tennesseean explained during a recent interview with a Fox affiliate in Los Angeles, Fox 11 Los Angeles that his meeting with Trump during the transition period between the November 2016 election and the January 2017 inauguration, noting how the future president did not take any of his suggestions.

"I don’t think he’s prepared to listen to advice about the importance of clean air and clean water," Gore told Michaelson. The former vice president also described global warming as "a global emergency. It truly is! Look at the temperatures going to record levels, look at the fires!"

He added, "Don’t take it from me. You don’t even have to take it from me or even have to take it from the scientists, who are virtually unanimous, take it from Mother Nature! Every night on the TV is like a nature hike through the Book of Revelation."

Gore also took swipes at Trump's environmental policies, including some creative wordplay on how Trump has reshaped the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to place the interests of the business community over those of the environment.

"I think everyone knows to discount what this current Administration is doing and saying. They’ve made the EPA the CPA! The Coal Production Agency! Instead of protecting the environment," Gore told Michaelson.

He also pointed out that "as significant as it is to change the light bulbs, it’s way more significant to change the laws and policies. We need to put a price on carbon, we need to conserve energy, we need to switch over to renewable types of electricity."

Finally, Gore showered praise on California's Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown, who has been at the forefront of efforts to effectively combat global warming.

"California has been the leader among all 50 states, partly because of the leadership of Jerry Brown. He’s a friend, but I’m a fan. California has set the standard that other states are now aspiring to," Gore told Michaelson about Brown.

Comments

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Thank you, Mr. Gore! Good advice. Resigning would avoid impeachment proceedings and other possible "inconveniences ." Yes, that would leave us with Pence--unless, of course, he gets caught up in Mueller's web. . .which I do think is a possibility.

At some point the question needs to be raised by the Demos and others as the climate change progresses if Trump, the administrators in his government and the fossil fuel industry who are not responding to, not mitigating and denying the disasters being caused by climate change and lying about it are not intentionally committing a crimes, being
criminally negligent and creating wide spread nuisances that are causing deaths and monstrous damages to individual citizens and to the taxpayers. They should pay for their actions and decisions.

Just think of where we would be as a country if this man would have been appointed as President in 2000... what a shame.

I suspect you mean if the Supreme Court hadn't gotten involved in a question of Florida Law and the recount had proceeded pursuant to the Florida Supreme Court's decision, which would have resulted in Gore's presidency. Appointment is what the SCOTUS did for W. Gore was elected.

When I saw Al Gore come out of that elevator with a smile on his face,
and he proceeded to comment that he had had a good meeting with
Trump, I knew he had been conned by "the consummate con-man"!
Con-artists are really easy to spot if you know their characteristics ,
and "The Orange Scourge" was REALLY EASY to "read"!
Too bad more people couldn't see this, and voted
for this jerk, bringing this misery upon us.

Donald Trump would be doing himself a VERY BIG FAVOR by resigning. Here I'm talking about the biggest favor EVER! Only a certified genius like Donald Trump could truly appreciate the advantages that would follow, both to himself and to the United States. The liberals in Congress calling for his impeachment would be swindled out of the spectacle of impeachment hearings, which could only bring out stuff that would make America look bad. The only thing we would have to be afraid of is how violent they might become for being cheated at their own rotten game. Part of being a master of deal making involves knowing when to fold up your cards and take your winnings home. And nobody can beat Donald Trump at that! Trump resigns and America becomes GREAT again. It's a win-win solution that only the world's deepest political thinker could think up.
