ep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the chairman of the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, said on Thursday that top White House aide Kellyanne Conway’s promotion of Ivanka Trump’s clothing line was “unacceptable” and “clearly over the line.” Chaffetz’s condemnation of the apparent violation of government ethics rules comes after the committee’s ranking member, Rep. Elijah Cummings, asked for “discplinary action” to be taken against Conway, who said during an appearance on Fox News, “go buy Ivanka’s stuff.” The clothing line was discontinued by Nordstrom’s, which cited its poor sales performance. Conway, however, took the opportunity to “give a free commercial” and encourage TV viewers to purchase Trump’s goods. Hours later, Chaffetz and Cummings filed a joint letter to the White House, declaring that Conway’s “unacceptable” actions “clearly” violated ethical standards, and recommending that disciplinary action be brought against her.
