hen the New England Patriots head to the White House tocelebrate their stunning Super Bowl 51 victory with notedPatriots fan President Donald Trump, tight end Martellus Bennettwon't make the trip.

Bennett told the media during his postgame press conference onSunday that he wouldn't go.

"It is what it is," he said. "People know how I feel about it. Just follow me on Twitter."

If you follow Bennett on Twitter, you'll know that last week hetweeted this:

During media day, in the lead-up to the Super Bowl, Bennett saidhe probably wouldn't make the trip to the White House if histeam won the game.

"I don't support the guy that's in the House," he said.

An athlete skipping a White House visit is nothing new. In 2012,Tim Thomas, then the Boston Bruins goalie, snubbed Barack Obama because he disagreed with Obama'spolitics.

But Bennett's decision is notable because the Patriots are thefirst team to win a title during the Trump administration. AndTrump, who picked the Patriots to win by eight before leaving aSuper Bowl party early, will likely revel in hosting Patriotsowner Robert Kraft, coach Bill Belichick, and quarterback TomBrady, all of whom he gave a shout-out to in a tweet after thePatriots sealed the win.
