Clinton's Popular Vote Lead Breaks 2 Million

illary Clinton's lead over President-elect Donald Trump in the popular vote has surpassed 2 million votes, the nonpartisan Cook Political Report reported Tuesday.

Clinton now has 64,223,958 votes to Trump's 62,206,395, the latest totals show.

Trump won the White House with 290 electoral votes to Clinton's 232, despite losing in total votes. Clinton begame the fifth presidential nominee in U.S. history to win the popular vote but lose in the Electoral College.

Online petitions with millions of signatures have urged electors to pick Clinton when they vote in December, citing her popular-vote lead.

Reports emerged Tuesday that a number of Democratic electors plan on using their votes to undermine the election process against Trump.

The group is lobbying their Republican counterparts to turn on the billionaire, denying him the 270 electoral votes necessary for the presidency. At least six electors may become “faithless” — which would be the most significant defection since 1808.

Clinton has formally conceded the 2016 race to Trump, though, and electors are highly unlikely to buck tradition or their state’s pick for the Oval Office.
