Sanders: Trump Still Owes Americans an Apology for 'Birther' Campaign Against Obama

onald Trump still needs to apologize for saying that President Obama wasn't born in the United States, Sen. Bernie Sanders said Sunday.

The 2016 Democratic presidential nominee called on the president-elect to apologize for his "birther" campaign against Obama.

"When Donald Trump helped lead the birther movement, that was nothing less than a racist effort to undermine the legitimacy of the first African-American president we have ever had," Sanders said on NBC's "Meet the Press.

"That was racist. That was disgraceful. The African-American community, and all of us, deserve an apology."
