Watch Elizabeth Warren's Feisty Anti-Trump DNC Speech

assachusetts senator and progressive darling Elizabeth Warren spoke on the first evening of the Democratic National Convention Monday, laying out the case for Hillary Clinton and hitting Donald Trump hard.

Warren's speech came just days after Clinton selected Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate, crushing many liberals' dreams of a Clinton-Warren ticket. But Warren has been an effective campaign surrogate for Clinton since endorsing her in June, especially with her attacks on Republican contender Trump.

Warren started by thanking Bernie Sanders, saying that "Bernie reminds us what Democrats fight for every day," before moving on to Trump, whom she called "a man who has never sacrificed anything for anyone."

A theme of Warren's speech was rigged systems — a frequent criticism of the Sanders campaign and its supporters. "The system is rigged," Warren said, noting that "the system works great for those at the top."

Trump's "whole life has been about taking advantage of that rigged system," she said, calling his campaign "the great Trump hot-air machine."

"And for one low, low price, he'll even throw in a goofy hat," she added.

Trump has "no plans to make anything great for anyone, except rich guys like Donald Trump," she said.

She added that "the really ugly underside" to his pitch is that "Trump thinks he can win votes by fanning the flames of hatred," calling his vision for the country "an America of fear and hate.

At some points in her speech, Warren was partially drowned out by chants of "We trusted you!" from a handful of loud members of the crowd — presumably Bernie Sanders supporters who were angry she backed Clinton.
