Hillary Stripped Naked in Public

Hillary Clinton

Let me start by saying I am no fan of Hillary. I was with Bernie all the way. Still, when I think of the relentless charges against her over her "sending classified emails from a private server," I think the commercial press has this one wrong.

First, there are plenty of examples of classified letters online. They are marked better than highway barriers. I understand that no emails in Hillary Clinton's server when she was Secretary of State were marked as classified using the government's own extensive protocols. The State Department re-classified these emails as secret AFTER they came into the news. This was presumably because they were not classified or marked secret when originally sent or received by her. Presumably the State Department thinks that we should not be able to read them now. Good luck anyone defending themselves against this kind of bait-and-switch-and then-hide.

Further, I think people are under the impression that Clinton used this email address and server for official government business. Nonsense. She conducted official business, including the "classified" messages she was required to read and circulate using her secure government email system like those Secretaries before her and since.

Clinton probably wanted to keep her private business out of the eyes of the entire government. I don't think that many of the people who slam her for her emails would place all that much more faith in the security of government servers – anyone remember Edward Snowden? Honestly now, was her behavior all that sinister and reckless?

I believe that some people believe that public officials are not entitled to use private email.  Do you?

Should those who choose to serve the public be stripped naked whenever they seek privacy? Maybe this is why our choice of candidates seem limited this time around.
