Our Will Be Done

I passionately canvassed for Franklin D. Roosevelt in the presidential election of 1944. I was not allowed to vote then, as the voting age was 21, and I was to turn 21 on November 18, eleven days after the election. I haven’t missed voting in an election since. I am now 92 years of age. I will be voting for Bernie Sanders this November, and believe, with the same conviction I had for Roosevelt in 1944, that Bernie is the person we need to lead this country at this time. I read the following at a Sanders rally, and wish to submit it here for your readers to consider:

If… all college students deeply in debt from college loans,

If… all women young or old who believe that the right to their own bodies should be under their own control and not governed by those who have no understanding of child-bearing or child-rearing,

If… all the elderly retired who live in fear and constant concern over their Social Security benefits, and tremble over each threat to its’ continuance,

If… all those on government lines for unemployment insurance and food stamps,

If… all parents whose children go to bed hungry or who need the assistance of a food bank,

If… all adult children who have had to move back into parental homes because of financial distress,

If… all underpaid working-people who struggle from one paycheck to another under minimum wage jobs,

If… all who wake up each day in hope for a better future, and go to bed each night with dashed dreams,

If… all those disenchanted who have little faith left in the voting booth,

If… all those who feel that their lives do not matter,

If… all my fellow seniors who remember the uncertain times of our childhood – the dispossessed families, the frightened, the hungry, and do not want our future generations to revisit such times,

If all of the above would go to the polls and vote for Bernie Sanders to be the Democratic Party nominee for the Presidency of these United States, and if we add to these the votes of those who already support Bernie Sanders… those who already work and care for one another, care for our land and our resources, care for our wildlife, our water and air, our place in the world and in space and our self-respect, he will be elected. Bernie Sanders is our best hope for a sane, humane future for our children and their children. He CAN win the election, he MUST win the election, and with our help he WILL win the election. It is up to all of us, together. Our will be done!
