The worst case scenario: President Mitt Romney. I believe that the Republican Party will nominate Mitt Romney as their best hope and there is no way that he will win the popular vote in a two or three person race. In a four or more person race, it is possible that no one will win a majority of the electoral college and the election will be settled in the current House of Representatives where each state, be it Alaska or California, Montana or Texas, has only ONE vote. If the election is decided in the current House, then the GOP with their majorities in most states can elect their nominee or anyone else they choose. In fact, the 2016 election could reverse the present situation where there is a Republican Congress and a Democratic President. After the newly elected officials are sworn into office, a Republican President could face a Democratic or overwhelmingly Democratic Congress.
