Attention Global Warming Warners

Sorry Al, but you didn’t deserve to be president.

If you thought, in your heart of hearts, that our government and legislature, owned and operated by Big Money and Big Wall Street and Big Banks and Big Oil and Big Everything Else, had any intention of doing anything for the rest of us then you were much too naïve to be the Leader of the Free World (whatever THAT means).

It was plausible, I suppose, that we could pretend to do something and then release “scientific” results that indicate that we have made some progress that was overstated occasionally or understated mildly, depending on whether we wanted the populace to be concerned or complacent. We could set up some little agency in the Interior Department to monitor and advocate for change.

Wait, you want some money for this? Oh, well, then never mind: we really don’t know if it is really warming. Or if it is, then is it the fault of humans. Or if it is, then could we really change our ways to reverse it.

All we can say for sure is we’re not gonna.

But you guys keep talking about it. The Left, The Right, The Tea Party, the Progressives, the Conservatives, the Think Tanks, the Media. Just talk and talk. Argue and debate. It’s Important. It’s Vital. It’s the most Important Thing Ever. It’s the Biggest Hoax Of All Time.

Meanwhile, your retirement is gone. Your economy is ruined. Your home is foreclosed. Your children are back and living in the basement. Your country is bombing and strafing civilians, much of it in secret. Millions of you are imprisoned. Your media is complacent. Your representatives are bought and paid for and working for the moneyed interests.

And, instead of working for peace, or for justice, or for the health of our fellow humans, you and I are stuck in neutral, arguing about whether the sea is going to rise 6 inches, or 18 inches, or not at all, in the last part of this century.

But what bothers me the most, that really makes me so very, very sad, is that there are so many problems that need our attention right now. One, among so many, that bothers me the most, is that an estimated 26,000 children in the world under five are going to die, today, from easily preventable causes. Malaria, dehydration, malnutrition, etc.

26,000 today.

26,000 tomorrow.

And the day after.

But you keep arguing, okay?

I say five inches, but that’s just a guess.
