Just Who Runs This Country?

Many of you may be thinking just who the hell runs this country these days. The people or corporations?

It's also a sad day for American voters when Congress quakes at the notion of the National Rifle Association scoring a vote rather than having to answer to the people who put them in office ... and who come back home asking for votes to send them back.

In South Carolina, Governor Nikki Haley scoffs at the idea of "constituent-driven" funding for government programs.

Really... who the hell runs this country?

We are fed up with the corporate takeover of our government. You work for me, not the corporations. You ask me for your vote, not the corporations. It's time you get back to basics and do the job we, the people, sent you to do. We demand action, not stalemates.

Sign this petition and tell all elected lawmakers to get their priorities straight.

Comments

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

When Corporations are recognized by the Supreme Court as people, without as much as a word from legislators, when banks are immune from justice, ideed are rewarded by taxpayer bailouts for theft then we are moving ever farther from the idea of a government of, by and for the people. Recent developments have forced a redefinition of American democracy: 99.9% (the people) voting in, once every 3 to 4 years, the 0.1% (the reps) who do the bidding of the 0.01% (the corporations) who then turn around to scr*w the 99.9% who cheerfully go back to the voting booths to vote against their own interests by voting in the same reps.

True, except I really do not think anyone is cheerful about it! ;-)

American writer Elmer Davis said it best:

"This Republic was not established by cowards and it will not be preserved by cowards."

"The first and great commandment is: Don't let them scare you."

"This will remain 'the land of the free' only as long as it is the 'home of the brave'."
