The Myth of Asheville N C

There is a tremendous amount of hype and spin not to mention well designed marketing ploys and campaigns about the town I live in, Asheville North Carolina. I have seen the town advertised as "the Paris of the South" with "beautiful mountain vistas and many literary points of interest" to mention a few. The local Chamber of Commerce excels in "promoting" this city as a business friendly anti-labor Mecca for development of the mountains and their dwindling resources. What that den of thieves call "development" is outright exploitation and ultimate destruction of those resources. The promoters or propagandists of the area take great pride in the medical facilities that are here but the reality is that unless you have money and great insurance you are S O L in Asheville.

Here is the real picture of this once small provincial town. Asheville has the highest cost of living in the state of North Carolina but has the lowest pay scale in the Old North State. Rent for a decent apartment is outrageous and more often than not you will be taken to the cleaners by the real estate and management firms. Asheville is by in large liberal but it is surrounded by people with a militia mentality. It is a cold and cliquish place where lots of little minnows from very big ponds have come to stake a place hoping to become big fish here.

If you are a "developer" you have city government in your back pocket. If you are rich or a wanna be, or a Yuppie a Guppie or a Buppie or any combination thereof you will be in hog heaven! If you are looking for a place where rudeness in restaurants, bars, or walking down the streets is considered "kool" you have found the Egometro! This my friends is Asheville, the old one of Wolfe or Fitsgerald does not exist maybe never did but if it did it has been replaced by the City on the Hill that loves the Emperor's New Clothes and has adopted the same as its seal!

We have one of the highest poverty levels in the country and as I said before the lowest pay aveage in the State so consider this before loading up the truck and moving to Beverly.
