Fleur De Force, Gabrielle Grace Epstein, and beachyogagirl – have you seen those Instagram profiles? A food & lifestyle blogger, a model, and a yogi who are crazy popular on social media, and would’ve been anonymous without such an exposure.

Social media platforms have a surprising power to expose the best of your personality to the world. If your best is good enough, you have great chances to become a social media star and build a career out of your presence in the online world. Beach Yoga Girl did it, and you can do it, too.

The Challenges of Social Media

Social media is considered to be the main source of information and knowledge these days. When you follow the right people and pages, you get everything you need: news, good laughs, useful online sources, and information about all trends you should be aware of. The best part is that the potential of these platforms is limitless; the users are always willing to follow more people and pages.

Still, we need to get used to the fact that it’s not easy to develop influential presence on these platforms, regardless of their huge potential. If you want to be a leader in the world of social media, you have to be aware of the trends, follow the changes, and be an innovator. Everyone is using Periscope lately? Well, maybe you’ll have to give the new platform a chance, too.

How exactly can you make money through social networks? Let’s say you have a talent. Maybe you’re a great blogger or graphic designer, and you want to start a freelancing career. The first thing you’ll do is build a great LinkedIn profile, but will you stop there? Of course not! You’ll definitely promote your work via Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and many other social media sites. That activity will bring you tons of clicks and likes, as well as exposure to potential clients. The result? Money.

People also use social media to look for new jobs. They analyze the profiles of different companies, so they learn about the organizational culture, open positions, and all projects they need to be aware of. That’s another proof of social media being linked to profits.

How to Build a Career Out of Social Media

1. Become popular first. Then, promote!

Aunty Acid is a very popular profile on Facebook (it has close to 11 million fans). This used to be a page that made people laugh, but the Aunty got into promotion overnight. Now, we see more of the clickbaits and less of the Aunty.

Here’s another example of someone making money in a similar way: George Takei. He is huge on Facebook and Twitter. He has a bright personality and knows how to say the right thing at the right time. However, he also uses his Facebook page to promote links to Diply, The Daily Buzz, Knowable, and other suspicious sites that gained popularity through click baits. Is he getting paid to promote these links? You bet! He never said so, but he does everything that fits into the advertise arbitrage model.

The lesson? Build a strong profile. Show your wit and uniqueness. When you get popular enough, the marketers of various websites will approach you with an offer. If you accept it, you can be like George Takei.

2. Use Instagram

Seriously! Instagram is one of the most powerful social media platforms, which people use on a daily basis. When you follow someone influential, you don’t just see the beautiful photos. You also read what they have to say.

Daniel Arnold, who uses Instagram to promote his own work, got almost $15,000 worth of requests and collected around $5,000 when he made a special offer to the followers on his birthday.

Take those Instagram fitness gurus as another example. They are getting money to promote clothes, shoes, protein shakes, detox teas, websites, blenders, juicers, apps, and all kinds of things on their profiles. When they say they enjoy a product, the followers will want to use it, too. The brands know their power, which is why they are paying great money for Instagram promotion.

3. Write!

Check out another Instagram profile with over 1 million followers: kinoyoga. Click on the first photograph that gets your attention (by the way, the photos are as cool as they get). Do you see the description that accompanies the photo? Kino can write entire essays in the description, and people will still read them. Why? Because she knows how to get their attention.

Writing skills are crucial when you aim for success on social media. If you can’t write that well, you can hire professional authors from services like AustralianWritings. They will analyze your requirements, take your ideas, and turn them into inspiring text.

It doesn’t matter whether you decide to focus on Google+, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or any other platform; they all impose the need for outstanding writing.

4. Be Active!

You can be the funniest person ever. You can have amazing writing talent and take the best photos the Instagram world has ever seen. If you’re not active enough, people will soon forget how awesome you were. This is the main principle to keep in mind: whatever you’re doing on social media, do it as frequently as possible.

The Oatmeal has the most awesome profiles on several platforms, but guess what: he is very active, too.

Social media is interwoven in the modern society. All industries and all kinds of professionals get great chances for promotion on these platforms. When you play the game well enough, social media can make you more effective in any profession. In fact, social media activity can become your profession. The trick is to plan your campaign well. The tips and examples above will help you do that.
