Ink-stained wretch Basil Dalack (staff writer-The Peddie News, Hightstown, New Jersey (1947-48); editor-Olive Drab Times, Seoul, Korea (1952-53)) today is-sued the following press release to the ink-stained wretches of the world.

Basil E. Dalack today announced himself as The Peace Candidate for the post of United States Senator for the State of Florida.

Basil Dalack was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, in April 1930, grew to manhood in Brooklyn, New York, whence he emigrated to South Florida in 1960. For the past forty years he and his wife, Claudette Francis of Great Falls, South Carolina, have lived in Tequesta; and so he meets the requirements of Article I, Section 3, Clause 3, of the Constitution of the United States for being elected United States Senator for the State of Florida.

Dalack is a graduate of Peddie (1948), the Washington Square College of Arts & Science (sic) (New York University) (1956), and the University of Miami School of Law (1966). Since 25 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independ-ence, and 32 of the 55 framers of the Constitution were lawyers, and because he has been a lawyer intimately involved in the judicial resolution of nearly three thousand instances of litigation and is a diligent student of the Declaration and the Constitution, Dalack meets the experiential requirements for the office.

His reason for seeking that office: Peace. He is taking action because no peace or anti-war group or individual he pleaded with electronically would act on his year-old Proposal for forming a Peace Party that would offer Peace Candidates for the 2016 election. He made his Proposal because Peace passed away on September 14, 2001, when the Congress, by a unanimous vote of the Senate, and with a single dissent-ing vote (Barbara Lee’s) of the House, passed a Joint Resolution entitled “Authori-zation For The Use Of Military Force”, which sounded the death knell in 59 words:
…the President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on Sep-tember 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.

In addition to killing Peace, those 59 words also ended the life of the Re-public, which had burgeoned on July 4,1776, with the following 36 words: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The 59 words of the Authorization did not overpower the 36 words of the Declaration because of sheer numbers—rather, those 59 words killed the Decla-ration when the Congress empowered the President to determine which men the Creator had endowed with the Rights to Life, Liberty, and pursuit of happiness and which men the Creator had not; the 59 words say that the right to life, liber-ty, and pursuit of happiness emanates from the President—not the Creator.

Thus, if Bush decreed then and Obama decreed currently that a man was “with us”, then that man possesses the right to life and liberty. However if Bush and Obama pronounced that a man “was not with us”, then that man has only the right to die.

The 59 words also repealed the Fourth Amendment’s protection against un-reasonable seizures, the Fifth Amendment’s protection of due process of law; and the Sixth Amendment’s protections relative to criminal trials.

Moreover, the 59 words abrogated the Kellogg-Briand Pact (the legal basis for the Nuremberg Tribunal’s imposition of punishment on Nazi war criminals for acts substantially identical to Bush’s and Obama’s and their coteries). The 59 words clearly repudiate the following provisions of that Treaty:
ARTICLE I
The High Contracting Parties solemly (sic) declare in the names of their respective peoples that they condemn recourse to war for the solution of international controversies, and renounce it, as an instrument of national policy in their relations with one another.
ARTICLE II
The High Contracting Parties agree that the settlement or solution of all disputes or conflicts of whatever nature or of whatever origin they may be, which may arise among them, shall never be sought except by pacific means.

Dalack believes the first step towards Peace would be Congressional insti-gation of an immediate global cease fire. Jointly with that step would be an im-mediate recall of our armed forces to the United States proper. This would in-clude evacuation of all military bases outside the United States thereby recogniz-ing the Declaration’s grievance against “Quarter[ing] large bodies of [foreign] armed troops among us.”

Next would be repeal of the 2001 Authorization.

The legal and moral authorities for these actions are George Washington’s 1793 Proclamation of Neutrality; Washington’s farewell address; and Major Gen-eral Smedley Butler’s 1932 War Is A Racket, all of which are available for on-line reading.

Crucial are the limits Butler prescribes for American Armed Forces: unless a power attempts to invade the United States: (1) the Army must remain within the United States, since the sole purpose of the Army is to defend against such an attempt; (2) the Navy would not send ships beyond a 200 mile limit; and (3) the Air force would not reconnoiter beyond 500 miles. Such limits are indispensable elements for Peace.

In order to begin his work, Dalack needs contributions from citizens be-cause he lacks the financial wherewithal to pay the $10,440 filing fee which the Florida Statutes require for a spot on the ballot.

Dalack has the financial ability to contribute only $440 towards the filing fee, and so he asks the citizens to contribute $10,000 to his campaign. His hope is that a thousand citizens will send his campaign $10 each. Ten dollar contribu-tions from citizens to the “Committee to elect Basil E. Dalack, Florida’s Peace Candidate, to the United States Senate”, at P.O. Box 3683, Tequesta, FL 33469 are welcomed and prayed for.

Because the Committee will not be buying any commercial advertising, no contributions will be used for such purchasing. And so all funds received by the Committee that exceed the dollars needed for for the $10,440 filing fee, and min-imal petty cash items, will be donated as a gift from American citizens who love Peace to Doctors Without Borders.

If Dalack receives enough dollars to pay the filing fee, he will issue a press release that will thank his supporters for their contributions and ask that no more contributions be made to his campaign.

Dalack hopes to remove the huge dollar contribution from its current dom-inant position in elections by asking his supporters to send out the electronic word to friends and neighbors to join in the support of the Peace Candidate. One citizen’s e-mail to another would replace a blaring TV screen. This would be a chain-letter that does not threaten death to the non-sender—rather, it prays for all the lives in the world—every sender would be a Matt. 5:9 Peacemaker.

If the American Empire does not end its wars and revert to its status as a Republic, it will collapse just as surely as did the Empires of Rome and the USSR.

A campaign by Dalack to become the President who would end the wars would most certainly have been ridiculous and foolish, because, given today’s dol-lar demand for television advertising, it would have been impossible. But becom-ing the Senator working to end the wars, by means of messages transmitted elec-tronically by one citizen to another, is a genuine possibility. And if his action were that of a fool, he would be joining the company of such noble fools as one of his namesakes: the Blessed Basil of Moscow.
