LIES, LIES, and WAR

Our country has been involved in too many useless wars perpetrated by lies since WWII. Wars like Vietnam and Iraq are stark examples of our government’s lies that have led us into wars and - here we are again, soaking up our leader’s lies about Iran. The war party of the Republicans of course leads the war chant, spewing those lies while they lust for war. Below are listed the basic lies that are thrown about by this conservative war party, but also by some Democrats who follow suit in order to appease misguided patriotic tendencies in the public when and if Iran ever gets a hold of nuclear weapons:
LIE: Iran is a threat to the world
This is absolutely absurd. There’s no proof of this threat whatsoever, Iran will never have enough power to do so, does not intend to do so, and would not even gain anything even if it could.

LIE: Iran is looking to destroy the U.S. with nuclear weapons.
Same absurdity as above. People on street shouting “death to America” does not translate into a government intention or stated policy to bomb the U.S. and no Iranian leaders have ever seriously threatened to do so.
But even if they had “the bomb” they could never accomplish this without committing “nation suicide” and there is no proof that Iran would ever commit their country to total destruction by a much more powerful nuclearized country if they ever tried to do so. (We’d apply the same retaliatory policy we had with the much more powerful Russia during the cold war, and they know it.)
LIE: Iran is looking to destroy the Israel and would do so once it had nuclear weapons.
Same absurdity as above. Iran does not have an official policy to destroy Israel. The official position of the Iranian leadership rhetorically – may be to “destroy the regime of Israel” but does not threaten actual destruction by Iran. Their position under supreme leader in Iran, Ali Khamenei, is: “…Iran definitely does not want the massacre of the Jewish people, but rather Iran has proposed a “practical & logical mechanism to eliminate Israel through a referendum involving all the original people of Palestine including Muslims, Christians and Jews anywhere in the world.” While this may sound absurd to some, important here is that he does not call for Iran to attack Israel, yet it’s important to note that Israel has threatened to attack Iran several times. (Link to the above-mentioned Ali Khamenei plan: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/irans-ayatollah-ali-khamenei-tweets-plan-eliminate-israel-1473927)
But even if Iran had those bellicose intentions to destroy Israel, along with having nuclear weapons, they could never do this without committing suicide (same as noted above for U.S.) and there is no proof that Iran would ever commit their country to total destruction by a much more powerful “nuclearized” country. Israel would immediately retaliate in a heartbeat to destroy Iran if they did this, and they have nuclear submarines with nuclear weapons aboard that could be used as backup if necessary.
To underscore the above statement, Israel is the most powerful country in the Middle East and possesses anywhere from 100 to 200 nuclear bombs, delivery systems, and submarines tipped with nuclear weapons.
LIE: The U.S. needs to protect Israel
We should not have to commit ourselves to fight Israel’s wars. Not only is Israel extremely capable of defending themselves from Iran if it ever came to that, but we should re-consider the “war commitments” we have with Israel and other countries around the world (like South Korea and Taiwan) and should not be fighting other people’s wars. (Isn’t it enough that we give them billions every year to purchase their WMD?)
While it is favorable to avoid having another country with the possession of nuclear weapons (there currently are 9), there is also an extreme element of hypocrisy for countries like the U.S. and Israel (same goes for the other 7) who value these weapons for “protection” but deny them to any other country. After all, Iran needs protection too – from Israel and the U.S., both who have several times made threats to “bomb-bomb-bomb Iran” as Sen. McCain and others have chanted.
But there is a very viable solution – DISARMAMENT. Before we work to prevent other countries getting nuclear weapons we need to show that we are seriously working for world disarmament of all nuclear weapons – starting with the Middle East and Israel, currently the only country possessing these in that region. The U.N. and Iran has called for and has been working to implement this plan to “denuclearize” the Middle East, however, this has had no support from the U.S. as well as from Israel. These disarmament efforts have been led by Egypt and other Arab states (including Iran) for the past 20 years. It’s time to call for nuclear disarmament in the Middle East instead of war and this must start with efforts to disarm Israel. Otherwise Iran will continue to pursue their security interests by building their own nuclear stockpile to avoid attack by Israel or the U.S.; and, we must disabuse ourselves from the notion that one nuclear power can get away with attacking another nuclear power one without suffering their own massive destruction.
