ongressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today rallied support for H.R. 459, Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2012 on the House Floor. Today marks a historic milestone after years of bipartisan efforts by Congressman Kucinich and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) to secure a thorough investigation of the Federal Reserve. The House is expected to vote on H.R. 459 later today.

The text of Congressman Kucinich’s remarks follow.

On a day Congress will decide whether to audit the Fed, the Washington Post reports that the New York Fed “did not communicate in key meetings with top regulators that British bank Barclays had admitted to Fed staffers that it was rigging LIBOR,” the index which sets interest rates world wide.

The Fed wants to be spared a full audit. They want monetary deliberations private. They then use that privacy shield to keep irregularities from regulators and from congressional view, exposing investors and consumers to massive losses.

Of course the Fed wants to continue a system where there is no transparency, no accountability where they can cover up manipulations of markets and interest rates. But should we endorse this system? When things fall apart, who do the banks come to clean up the mess? Congress!

The Fed creates trillions of dollars out of nothing and gives it to banks. Congress is in the dark. The Fed sets the stage for the subprime meltdown. Congress is in the dark. The Fed takes a dive on LIBOR. Congress is in the dark. The Fed doesn’t tell regulators what is going on. Congress is in the dark.

It is time for us to bring the Fed into the sunshine of accountability. Vote for the Audit.

We're going to miss Dennis Kucinich in the house.

It is a travesty to lose him but it is also a clear consequence of SCOTUS activism.

It's time for a presidential run, anyway.

The disgrace is that Kucinich was one of only 89 Democrats in the House who voted for the bill (the article is a bit confusing, because I read that it passed the House yesterday).

According to Reuters, this bill is "expected to die in the Democrat-contro lled Senate."

Call your Senators and tell them they'd better damn well vote for it – and not to water it down again.

How come I get the distinct feeling that this PARTICULAR congress prefers to stay in the dark, or turn the other cheek.

You are getting that distinct feeling because your internal compass is turned on and is fully functional.

Ron Paul may be thw only one left who is attacking the real problem, and not owned by Wall Street. Yes we will miss Dennis, I wonder how much money was spent to silence him?

Ron Paul isn't the only option. Have a look at the strides the Green Party has made in recent years. They don't accept corporate contributions and stand for all things good for the country.

Our political system is SUPPOSED to allow for all parties to be represented but thanks to corporate money, K Street and the Right-wing, we are just about a one party system like China and Russia.

Congratulations America on being so gullible.

Ron Paul is not running for re-election to congress.

As usual, the story isn't even framed or titled accurately. The notion that "Congress is in the Dark" is preposterous. Those elites - Republican and Democrat - know perfectly well what goes on at the Fed; they are all a bunch of government protecters for the one percent, bought and paid for by billionaires. Welcome to the American Oligarchy!

Maybe Dennis was just being polite. But he still got the job done. Dennis is never short on impeccable manners.

Ohioans are in the process of trying to get the right to redistrict into the hands of the people instead of the legislature. It was Republicans redrawing the lines that cost DK his district. The effort was still somewhat short of the necessary number of signed petitions last week, but I haven't heard how it stands today.

The Rethuglicons did the same thing to Alan Grayson in Floriduh. The in-your-face corruption is breath taking.

Do you think for one second that the Congress will audit the Fed? These turkeys have roosted too long to even dare to shed light in that dark corner the rats there are armed and dangerous. It is really hard to imagine Congress doing the job they went to Washington to do? They will fail watch.

Then let us make sure we get the rotten apples out of DC. We have a General Election coming up in 100 days and we can make sure the crooks who have participated in all of this are thrown out.

We the People pay for our government, it belongs to us. Just because a pack of arrogant criminals are demanding squatters' rights doesn't mean we are obliged to keep them on. Let's fire their fannies and send them packing! Besides, we need to make room for Elizabeth Warren and to get back Dennis Kucinich and Alan Grayson, who truly represent us.

Diapers and politicians should be changed often, both for the same reason.

Heh-heh; good one!
