as the Democratic establishment inside the Washington Beltway and inside New York boardrooms learned anything from Bernie’s extraordinary feat? I hope so. If the Democratic Party (or, for that matter, the Republican Party) fails to see the gigantic wave of anti politics-as-usual populism that emerged in 2016, it’s in deep trouble. Bernie won 22 states and the votes of most young people in every Democratic race not because of his charm, good looks, or wit, but because of the power of his message: that we must reclaim our democracy and economy from the moneyed interests.

If the Democratic establishment doesn’t get what’s happened, it’s inviting a third party that does.
