From Atrocity (Syria) to CEO (Romney)

By Juan Cole, Informed Comment

15 July 12

trocity: What a mass murder is called when the world is too blind or timid or divided to prosecute it as a war crime. Synonym (mainly Syr.): Treimseh.

CEO sabbatical: The practice of chief executive officers of a company to absent themselves for several years from actually making decisions, even while they are the only CEO. Related term: Absentee sole owner. Some CEOs buy Chinese companies to which they send American jobs, though only during their sabbaticals, in which case they are not really the ones who buy the Chinese company or send the jobs there, what with being on sabbatical and all.

Grozny: Russian for "peace plan." The Grozny form of peace plan is often urged by Russian leaders on other countries, such as Syria. Antonym: Peace plan. Related Terms: Treimseh (see above).

Swipe fees: Fees paid by retailers to Mastercard and Visa so that the credit card companies and banks can swipe your money. It is apparently illegal for them to conspire to overcharge the merchants, but it is all right if they conspire to charge individual consumers usurious rates (i.e., rates that are often illegal in the state where the consumer resides). Related terms: usury. (Note that readers in Delaware and South Dakota may encounter a 404 'not found' error if they click on the term 'usury.')

Unicorn: 1. Mythical animal with one horn. 2. Black psy-ops operation in which it is alleged to the public that a nuclear power might give its nuclear warheads to small, crazed terrorist groups so as to convince the public that therefore the alleged budding nuclear power must be nuked, so as to make sure that nuclear weapons are never used. Antonym: Sanity.

Comments

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

I believe the American people think they are electing Romney as their president. How soon they forget.

Oh! I get it...black is white, war is peace and all kinds of confounding stuff happens when stuff explodes...

The bartender says to the faster-than-lig ht neutrino, "Hey, we don't serve your kind in here!"

A faster-than-lig ht neutrino walks into a bar.

You want mass murderers? Check out your bathroom mirror, Uncle Sam!

Neutron walks into bar and asks bartender, 'How much for a beer?' Bartender replies 'For you, no charge.'

A proton walks into a bar and asks for a glass of Round-Up with twist of lemon.

The bartender asks "Do you really want to drink that?" The proton replies "I'm positive!"

The mantra of RSN is: " General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.
Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action."

Just read this to the policy makers of the world's powers every day. Don't forget the US and Hillary Clinton.

Remember the song from Reagan years "Mad Man at the Helm?"

There is a dynamic in play; sort of a tension with Islamic clerics and Mullahs exhorting violence in front of selected congregations and saying encouragements of peace in more public settings.

Pakistan is made to be a US ally; actually US positions assets to watch nuclear arsenal.

Lying is written into Quranic rules for conquest; in Romney's Mormonism we see an ethical equivalency promoting bald-faced lying. Certainly revisionism by Mormon hierarchy for over 150 years tells the tale.

Middle East negotiating fantasy is expressed in "Indiana Jones" when Indy meets guy swinging the big scimitar and introduces him to Colt peacemaker. Self defense. Original Arabic Qur'an exhorts "treimseh" when infidels refuse to convert! Now it is Syria where we have (deliberately targeted) missing civilians; have you looked under the new paving projects, UN inspectors?

Nasser's promise to drown Israel in 1967, Olympics massacre in 1972, another try on Israel in 1973, Entebbe in 1976, and Iranian takeover of US embassy in 1979. US began payback by helping Iraq vs. Iran, but we make mistake by engaging in proxy wars now as we did then. Soon the game unravels and the lines are clearly drawn. Jihad is the rule and anything else is a smoke screen.

If Clerics seek truth, see Acts 6:v.8 to 8:v.1 and explain Abrahamic covenant with accuracy; things will be set right. Islam decides its own fate.

Not really sure why you have negative rating of your post, unless it is your brief paragraph of Mormonism or the comments on Israel. Agree that weighing in on other countries wars...in the hopes of getting some leverage on the oil available???... is indeed a very stupid thing for a country to do and we are paying the price. The United States had some admirers in Iran before we decided to change governments at will and then attack various sheepherders in Afghanistan and in Iraq...but we are indeed paying the price.

So that is what passes for an informed comment here. Pity. For his sake I hope Juan didn't quit his day job.

Sort of stuck in a rut here. No one including Divine Barry seems capable of coming up with a reason to vote for Divine Barry. Just attack Romney.

Obama is an egomaniac. If he had done something to brag about we would hear no end of it. What we get instead is attacks on Romney & avoidance of the issues.

He came to the table with a blank resume & performed the way one would expect someone with those credentials to perform. But it's OK because we all know his dismal performance was Bush's fault & anyone who says otherwise is a racist.

Oh, you mean like having a "Mission Accomplished" banner in back of him when HE finally "got" Bin Laden?

Seems like the reactionaries are out in force in this commentary. I recommend a strong dose of Finian Cunningham (at Global Research) to both Mr. Cole and poster tahoevalleyline s. Just as with Libya, we are being inveigled by the PTB to support another imperialistic adventure.
