Saying 'Constitution' While Meaning 'Lawlessness': Palin Attacks Obama

arah Palin's turn before the teabaggers was an exercise in emptying the US Constitution of meaning while seeming to exalt it.

She praised US military personnel for defending the constitution.

But she complained that constitutional protections were offered to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the underpants bomber. She said it is 'our' constitution, reducing it from a universal document (the Declaration of Independence says 'all men' are endowed with inalienable rights) to a tribal one.

She said Abdulmutallab could otherwise have been questioned. But why should he have answered, rights or no? Holder's methods got him talking. (Nor is it likely constitutional to arrest a lawbreaker on US soil and whisk him off to military detention.)

Then she said we need a commander in chief, not a professor of constitutional law.

But Obama is designated by the constitution as commander in chief. Is she denying that status to him?

And if the constitution is so great and worth dying for, why is it bad to study it systematically?

So at every turn she invoked the constitution to undermine the constitution.

She is not about law, but is about power. We've had enough narcissistic sociopaths in politics.

And note that Jerry Brown, e.g. Would not be put on CNN addressing 600 leftwing democrats in prime time. I'm afraid of Time Warner now.

Juan Cole is President of the Global Americana Institute.

Right on, Joe! We have more pressing problems to worry about than the antics of Palin, like 45,000 Americans dying every year for lack of timely health care and Oh, so Christian Senators opposing anything that might let some of them live.

Sarah's NOT going away Joe! She has the majority of your nation in her pocket and a great deal of financial support besides. Please don't bury your head in the sand. Stand up and do something! Become a dissident before they take that right away from you. Oh I forgot, Patriot Act 2, they already removed that right. The USA is in deep shit and are taking the rest of us down with you.

I believe many people, when listening to Sarah Palin, have made the error of mistaking ambition for ability. She is ruthlessly ambitious. Her abilities lie in the area of knowing how to market herself for maximum monetary gain. In that respect she's doing well. She and the whole tea bag movement are using each other to further their goals. Just imagine if they really had to govern.

She plays to the visceral instincts of lower-class whites who are disaffected because they feel confused by the complexity of modern life and bypassed by what they thought was their American dream. Hitler played to lower class Germans who were disaffected with the Weimar Republic and deprived by post-WWI inflation of the good life they thought they deserved. Hitler directed anger at Jews and communists. Sarah and the teabaggers direct anger at intellectuals and liberals, guess what, by calling them communists and socialists. Hitler built fear of terrorists and external threats; do we see any xenophobic similarities here? Hitler built patriotic German pride; Sarah builds patriotic American pride. Hitler was a celebrity adored by women who saw him as intelligent, powerful, and sexy; Sarah's popular combination of political appeal and sexiness is no accident. Do not underestimate the political power of this kind of gut-level appeal.

[quote name="Paul Chadwick"]She plays to the visceral instincts of lower-class whites who are disaffected because they feel confused by the complexity of modern life.
It is not just lower class whites that Palin plays to, it is all those who are overwhelmed by the sheer conceptual complexity of life in these times. All the anchors of American identity are in the global blender and not even the highly educated know what is really going on or what to do. If progressives had more compassion for the anxiety that accompanies what the Internatinoal Futures Forum calls the "global conceptual emergency" and began to offer some help in working it through instead of adding to it, the power of a Palin would shrink to normal proportions. Countering "teabaggers" with "brown baggers" just adds to the anxiety that the voiceless (of all classes) already feel about a world that is changing too fast to grasp.

I wish it were true that she will "go away." Unfortunately that is only a dream. This person is not going away and we may even see her run for President in 2012. She appeals to those who really don't know or understand the workings of our government. The best example I can give of that is the person protesting health care reform at a town meeting. They got into a fight. They were injured and someone said they had called an ambulance to take him to the hospital. His answer: Don't! I don't have health insurance. This is the type of person that is attracked to Palin. They feel disenfranchised and see her as "one of them."

Urge people to write email call representatives especially Senators, Representatives too. And write their local newspapers. U.S. News reported on HHS 2009 costs now actually 17 cents of every dollar! Watching the Palin speech I tried to understand what these people were so caught-up in. Occasionally the group stood and applauded, but there was no joy in their faces - no excitement and no smiles. They were listening and responding but it was lackluster. How could they believe her? What can you expect from an attractive, failed, hack, sports announcer who walked out on her job as Governor.
Palin did not reference the economic crisis we all face – not really. Sarcasm and innuendo were the substance of her talk. I think the looks on the faces of the people who paid over $500 for their seats was, Is she really getting $100,000.00 for this ghost-written gruel?
Here in the U.S. we are in for some very hard times. I watched it during the Great Depression, I'm 80, and I see a much more serious economic situation facing us today. .

Palin is being paid by the Corporate Right-Wing Conservative Republicans to parrot the propaganda of the Corporate Right to get the Corporate Republican Conservative Right-Wing back into office. Apparently the Corporate Conservative Right-Wing Republicans believe that the populace is foolish enough to have forgotten that the Corporate Conservative Right-Wing Republicans ARE the ones who purposefully brought the economy down, outsourced all populace jobs and got rid of manufacturing. It will be disastrous for the populace of the United States if the Corporate Conservatives are right about the populace, and the populace think putting the Republicans back will be a solution to our nation's downfall, because Palin's Republicans are the problem, NOT THE SOLUTION.

Yes, Sarah Pailn is indeed a narcissitc sociopath. And she has a TON of support. H.L. Mencken once said, "No on ever went broke UNDERSTIMATING the taste of the American Public." I'm am absolutely AMAZED at how many people in the U.S. lack ctitical thinking skills and are easily swayed by insane radio & TV personalities such as Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck. And Sarah Palin is actually FAR less intelligent than any of those PATHOLOGICAL LIARS. We have been bombarded by lies, half truths and innuendo in the mainhstream media. It is NOT left-leaning or biased in favor of the left. It is now favoring the right - even PBS and NPR are slanting things toward the right, lending them more credibility. They did it during the Bush era and they'e doing it now. Corporations control ad revenue and are now DICTATING what they will accept as news. Oligarchy heading toward fascism - that's where we are now folks, and if you don't know the drfinitions of those words, maybe it time ya looked 'em up, huh?

Palin appears to be in the lead for the Republican nomination, and the Republican nominee always has a chance of winning the general election.

The ignorance of voters who support Palin is enormous. So is their number.

Here are some bibical verses for Sarah Palin:

"Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at," -- Job 15:12

"Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause. For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land." -- Psalms 35:19-20

"He[she] that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow:" -- Proverbs 10:10

"A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. He[she] winketh with his[her] eyes," -- Proverbs 6:12-13

Unfortunately most Americans go for Hollywood type candidates, good looking sexy and brainless. They identify with them. Again, most Americans don't research or are unable to analize political aspects. These facts will never change.
