It's the time of year when a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of deductions and write-offs. One select group of Americans, though, has a more pressing tax-season task on its mind: preserving a lucrative loophole in the IRS code.

Robert Green Ingersoll said it best - well over 100 years ago:

"I believe in protecting American industries, but I do not believe in rocking the cradle when the infant is seven feet tall and wears a number twelve shoe."

Of course, they didn't have legions of lobbyists in those days - just simple thieves known as good old boys.
