Goldberg writes: "In many ways, Dominionism is more a political phenomenon than a theological one. It cuts across Christian denominations, from stern, austere sects to the signs-and-wonders culture of modern megachurches. Think of it like political Islamism, which shapes the activism of a number of antagonistic fundamentalist movements, from Sunni Wahabis in the Arab world to Shiite fundamentalists in Iran."

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.
General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.
Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

There is one culture that bans debt completely: Islam, under sharia law. Because the Koran (3:130) says: “O, yo
“O, you who believe! Devour not interest, doubled and redoubled, and be careful of Allah.”
Quoting
I guess you folks don't get sarcasm and parody!
So, let me explain it:
The Bachmans and Perrys of the world are all for co-mingling of religion and government as long as it's 'their' religion. Ask them to allow, understand, or respect any other religion, and it's a whole new ballgame!
Now do you get it?!
Yes, but these people are serious, sick, and racist...and the have "the podium" AND the ear of the equally racist religious fanatics in the US!
Be afraid, people, but be aware, too. Shout from the highest "mountain" you can find that we will TAKE BACK our democracy. The Bush gang were democracy thieves; this gang of dominionists are "democracy detroyers."
Pun intended: I made "a prophecy" long ago when Sarah Palin got on my radar that she will sail into a government she eschews on the wings of those who are FAR worse than her, who are FAR more serious than her, who are FAR hungrier than her!
If Bachmann or Perry win the GOP, either they will take one or the other as VP, they will bring in Palin and surround themselves with every other dominionist they can to TRULY topple our government and thus the world.
Smacks of Nazism; be VERY afraid of them, but DO NOT let them get away with it. Make no jokes about them. Expose them for who they truly are, and send them packing.
I'm nauseous again.

Between Eric Prince and these declared militant religious creeps, whether or not they actually cause world war, they are contributing to the chaos they thrive on and the downfall of decent people everywhere - people who are doing their best to live and let live and maintain dignity and integrity.
They are not Christians; they are the worst their bible declares to be evil.
There is no more serious problem in the world than this power grab by people who want to destroy ALL in the name of pure and outright evil.
My father, a devout Catholic and staunch Democrat, is rolling over in his grave.
I am going to work to try to stop them; I have to. There is not choice here. I have to do it for my father, who lived a good and loving life, harming no one. I have to do it for all of you who are trying to live a similar, conscientious life. He deserves to rest in peace; we deserve to live our lives without fear, with conviction about the efficacy of our democracy and our Constitution, and with the honest knowledge that our actions throughout our lives are for the benefit of ALL.
They must be stopped! I'm not joking and I'm not paranoid. I know these people. Please, please, do not take this lightly or we non-dominionists will be the next scapegoats who will have nowhere to hide. We WILL be the enslaved who think we're free; this, I assure you.
Act now.

Here's a brief excerpt from Wikipedia on the seminal Nazi "Kristallnacht" of Nov, 1938...
"...SA stormtroopers and civilians destroyed buildings with sledgehammers, leaving the streets covered in pieces of smashed windows—the origin of the name "Night of Broken Glass." Ninety-one Jews were killed, and 30,000 Jewish men—a quarter of all Jewish men in Germany—were taken to concentration camps, where they were tortured for months, with over 1,000 dying. Around 1,668 synagogues were ransacked, and 267 set on fire..." This can't happen here, right? Right? Is anyone really ready for this kind of social explosion all over the U.S., during the worst economy in 80 years? Maybe not Jews this time (then again?), but maybe Mexicans, or Paks, or blacks? If we sit back while the political front man and women (let's not forget Sarah) for Dominionism are further legitimized by the media, we're headed down a very steep, slippery slope. No doubt.
Those left behind will be too poor to go or too ill-informed to understand what's really happening to them.

Agreed, Angelfish; check out my post.
Committments to civil rights as expressed in the Constitution and particularly the Bill of Rights are completly at odds with the Old Testament. We will return to public stoning when we wish to punish an adultress. There may be no Jesus to intervene.
At least his scary supporters should be.
Perry and Bachmann bear the spirit of antichrist, PERIOD!! Nothing CHRISTIAN about either.
God help us all.
Anyone else for seeing either one outright humiliated in '12?
I know that this is frightening and that the Fragmented States is well down the Rushdoony Road to theocracy but y'know what they are utterly lacking? -----A sense of humor!
As long as we can laff (mis-spelling OK!) and make music which, if I'm not utterly off-base, is in our individual and collective DNA's (which by their lights is "God-given"), we need not fear these witless perverts -and I mean every letter of that description!
Can you imagine a Taliban'ish or Auto-de-Fe'ish world without music, free literature (currently more under threat) or poesy, visual arts or a sense of fantasy?
I think that even the numbed state of the populace would revolt if that were to even seem likely, including the totally useless and corrupted mass media.
This is -as one BBC commentator recently stated, "Like predicting the next UK Prime Minister via a poll taken in the outer Hebrides".
Don't be alarmed -just vigilant (for any and most likely skullduggery) and remember: these people live in a different world on almost any conceivable level, than the rest of us working or would-like-to-be-working stiffs and are more likely to destroy each other than their perceived enemies but can indeed, do a lot of unnecessary damage on their string-narrow path to nowhere!
Bit by bit these extremists really are taking over literature (remember the textbooks in Texas and the push for teaching creationism), and attempting to censor art, etc. There are schools being controlled by local churches (I live near one) and attempts to control human service departments. The movement has been slow, but steady, and is becoming more forceful every time a candidate declares their heated religious desires.
I do not believe in a "Rapture," but believe me, if it were true, these people would be left behind.

They seem to have forgotten all about Jesus Christ..
That is b/c Jesus came to set us free and that is not what the repugs want to do, all they can think of is HELL FIRE AND DAMNATION. Jesus is all about being free, they must have not gotten that far in the Bible.... that is all that I can think of....
Remember these dominionists use the Old Testament, particularly Genesis, to guide them. The Evangelical Christians use the New Testament solely to study the teachings of Christ. There is total hell fire and damnation running throughout the Old Testament...so when they speak about "Jesus being their Savior," understand that they do not even LOOK AT his teaching, which are profoundly about working to benefit ALL people in our lives, not just the chosen few.
These people are not Christians at all; they are idiotic creationists who believe the world is only 6,000 years old, should be dominated into submission, and that those of us who do not embrace their beliefs should be destroyed. THAT is not Christian; that is not the message of Jesus. THAT is not the message of any thoughtful, loving person. THAT IS the message of every dictator this world has ever tolerated.

For example Iran, or Persia as it was once called, was once the high-cultural jewell in the crown of the middle east before the Ayotollah and his mullahs took, even after the US and BP orchestrated Mossadeq's fall.
Bob Dylan summed it up nicely in his profound tone-poem "The Gates of Eden" with the words "-And in all their promises of Paradise, you will not hear one laugh"!
And please quit chuckin' Jesus' name about at each other like a baseball y'all. It carries no weight with many and just insults others who revere his memory. The subject people have nothing even vaguely spiritual about them, although do I think that the appalling Barfman is at least sincere and actually believes what she says in a kind of Messianic way, unlike Perry, who is all about power and money (in other words, a true politician!).
You know that old saw "God save me from your followers!"???
LAUGH, LAUGH AND HAVE FUN (At them and yourselves), preferably of y'r own making!
We truly are witnessing the downfall of portions of a culture, and the building of an alternative culture not of your or my making. Many of us are concerned with the steady creep of militant religious "christians", or any other religious radicals, and their influence over established institutions with the support of corporate thugs, like the Koch brothers.
If there were more adherence to the teachings of Jesus, we would not have the militant aggressiveness of so called christians today. They are not Christians.
Now - what is to be done? THAT is the question!
"Tit for tat?"
or
"Father forgive them for they know not what they do?"
