We need to pledge to vote out every congressperson who caused this to happen to us. The ones who vote NO constantly, need to be told "Hell NO" come 2012 election day. That should clean the Republibaggers right out of the House and get some sanity back there.

+4 # Caitlin Mack 2011-07-28 14:09
I agree with Barbara K. wholeheartedly. We've got to get a majority of Dems or I's who are sane and knowledgeable into the legislature. Since Teapublicans have never said 'Yes' to anything yet, we definitely need to give them the "Hello NO" message.

But it is by no means clear, to me at least, that there are any sane, rational people left in the nation who are simultaneously, running for Congress. We seem to place the worst of all Americans into this political Kabuki called politics--the people who cannot seem to make a living doing honest work. And then (thank you Supremes) we insist that unchecked money supplied by entirely corrupt corporatists should flow into the piggy banks of these serfs of the Lords of the Manor. The American people are no longer in charge of our fate. Instead, we have given it away to our corrupt political bankers--the Kochs, Murdochs and others of that ilk.
We should be ashamed, but we seem no longer capable of shame as a people.

+46 # Kayjay 2011-07-26 12:17
The key point in this argument is that we cannot govern our nation effectively. We have been saddled with bickering, corrupt political reps who shoot ideological spitballs across the aisle, while the economy crashes upon the rocks. We really do need to clean house and senate of these rats, implement TERM LIMITS and voice our concerns to reps who are beholden to most of us, formerly known as the middle class.

I wonder why the constituents of the T partiers have not spoken up?? Videos of their rallies showed a lot of older - and middleaged people, who certainly would be hit hard by the draconian messures proposed by the republicans.
Do they think that some republican god will help them???

We recall the fools, during the health care debacle with signs "Get your hands off my Medicare."
WHERE ARE THEY NOW??
DO THEY REALIZE WHAT THEY HAVE LET LOOSE ON THE COUNTRY.....and themselves??

"Clearly, no," replies Pickwicky. And that's the problem, isn't it? Are they listening? Hiding under the covers? Dead, perhaps? Brain dead, that is.

This is the time the U.S. needs a president with majorities in both houses. It's a dangerous game being played out with the rest of the world watching and wondering; What the heck are you politicians thinking? Hopefully as well, the electorate will see that electing radicals has consequenses. Everyone's well being is at stake, not just in the United States.

Government is the art of compromise for the benefit of the people. Obstructionism is the tantrum of people who feel powerless, but who do not take the the time nor initiative to understand what is happening. It is a passive-aggress ive posture of the victim. Real citizens need to present real options of discussion. This brinksmanship is immature, unnecessary, and really starting to annoy me. Its not government. They should all be spanked and sent to bed without supper, and denied salaries and benefits for failing to do their jobs.

Neither Obama or Boehner said one thing new. All politics as usual, politics first, country second and neither made one comment that in any way contributed to solving the problem. They right and both wrong. We need to raise taxes and we need to cut spending. Instead of continuing to threaten the elderly it does seem Obama could dump his worthless health plan. But no, just tell the Senior Citizens of this country they will not be paid. Sounds very cruel to me.

It seems as if many people just don't understand how a bad health care system is a drag on the economy. Here's the deal: If there were universal health care, ie Medicare for all, instead of various insurance plans, The TOTAL cost of medical care for America would go DOWN, and cost LESS (as a % of GDP). This is how it was done in other countries, and WHY it was done.

Republicans campaign on "eliminate the waste", but refuse to do so.

whatsupwiththat?

This could be so simple and easy, but there are congresspeople In DC who know things that they're not willing to tell.

Boehner is a hypocrite; the gop'ers are neo-fascists, etc. Who is this news too? And why is O still seeking "bipartisanship " with these evil thugs? Does he never learn? How about a national address in which O calls out the gop'ers for being the reactionaries and dishonest bullies they are and a major democratic campaign to match that? I realize it's overstating the issue (slightly) but at this rate O will give the gop'ers the keys to the White House and declare "peace in our time" before we know it.

Camus11, I want to give you an encouraging word, with a sound follow up. NEVER allow yourself to sink to a state of apathy; that is EXACTLY what these evil incarnates are COUNTING ON. Many of the people who have supported these "unindicted criminals" are too embarassed to admit it, even to themselves, and too proud to take the necessary action to correct things. The millions who stayed home during the 2010 midterms are deeply regretting that they did so. We need only to look at the residents in Wisconsin for inspiration to TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION and NOT ROLL OVER in submission. We can STILL TAKE DOWN these hellish neocons! BE ENCOURAGED, ENCOURAGE OTHERS, AND VOTE 2012 IN NEW RECORD HIGH NUMBERS!

Is there any possibility that the President could Charge Cantor and Boehner et al, with Treason? Their refusal to work our fiscal problems out with any justice or fairness, with an end result of our Country Defaulting on it's debts, is treasonous!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not paying taxes to this government anymore if they are going to continue to give tax breaks and loopholes to corporations. If they can't manage our money responsibly I'm not going to give it to them. Now, who's with me on this. If 100,000 of us start this they'll look at it. If 1,000,000 of us do this they start to listen. Unfortunately money is what runs this country now, not people or our elected officials. Let's take away their money and see how they like it.

TrueAmericanPatriot.
You are right. They hate Obama. This scarily parallels what happened in Chile
When Allende was elected President, He wanted to make sure the poor farmers would be able to own land and not just be serfs. No way would the Oligarks allow that. So the minute he took office. There was nothing but big trouble.
Food and many other things needed in people's daily lives virtually disappeared overnight and inflation raged.
Allende was hung out to dry, just as the republicans are treating O. Whatever he is for...even if THEY suggested it..They shoot down. We have trouble allover. Our courts can not function because their budget are cut so sharply. Trouble every where...
The country didn't function...Like ours

+20 # X Dane 2011-07-26 16:35
I continue..Of course the fact that Allende wanted to help the poor, in the eyes of the US meant that he was a scary commie pinko,,,,so the CIA got into the "game" and Allende was toast....And what did Chile get?? Consumer goods in the stores immediately, it seemed that life would go back to "normal"....... .but there was a steep price PINOCHET a most disgusting torturing dictator. and years of horrible misery.

The republicans HATE Obama with the same white hot hatred. as the Oligarks hated Allende. A BLACK MAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE. No way they will destroy the country first.....and they are.

X Dane--and the solution is? Education? But doesn't the preponderence of Tea Baggers have college degrees? Ah, you say, it's possible to have a college degree without an education--and how right you are. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing--was that said by Goethe or Voltaire? No matter--we all know by now how right that is. What to do about it, that is the immediate question? I'm convinced these fundamentally stupid people are unreachable.

Boehner thinks he is the president, he forgot one thing....he was never elected to be the president. Boehner WALKED OUT ON NEGOTIATIONS... what does this tell the American people devestate with proposed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and of all things for our VETERANS of Military who served in active duty to serve and protect our country...

What a crap article. It is full of inside-the-belt way mythology. "President Obama strained to recapture the centrist credibility he had in campaign ’08" This is such crap! Was I ever Wrong!

There are a miniority of people who did not vote for Obama because he was black. Evil exist in all colors, races and cultures of mankind.

If some people could put away their racial closet hatred because of a man's skin color and really look at that persons heart and character, they would see beyond their own physical eyes which at times can be very deceiving.

Obama will be the best president in his second term when these GOP/TP crazies have to find a new goal.

NEVER vote GOP/TP unless you are in the "in group" bc they will take you down with us in the middle/left.

The GOP/TP are funded by big$$ - they owe You/Me nothing -- and we may never recover from Bush/Reagan years --

Look at Walker in Wisconsin and WE KNOW he is IN with the Koch brothers bc he was recorded and heard on TV for a few days thinking he was talking to a Koch brother.

Therefore, the Supreme Court must take back their UNCONSTITUTIONA L decision to give corporations "person" hood - just to buy our elections -- without the responsibility for slander (the mildest) to OUTRIGHT corruption --

I see no big-bank-exec in jail - even though we KNOW the names of the hedgers who continue to foreclose "even when they don't own the property" -- get it?

Letting the banks regulate themselves is .. . (*^()*^)&^)* and there oughta be a law against known criminals policing themselves (OH? There are such laws? Hmmm)

Register and get mail-in ballots NOW (ASAP) and help anyone who is having trouble registering. The GOP has told you they will make it "impossible" to vote if you're not in a "red district"

What makes you think the conservative arm of SCOTUS isn't sleeping with the Koch brothers, et al, just as Walker is? The "Robber Barons" have bided their time. Now that we have elected a "black" president they are striking back. They are using the racism and the religious intolerance of ignorance to advance their agenda: "get back everything that was taken away from us by Roosevelt!"
They really don't care about the country, its citizens or its "credit rating." All they care about is their own filthy greed!!!!
