A note to Tea Party activists: This is not the movie you think it is. You probably imagine that you're starring in "The Birth of a Nation," but you're actually just extras in a remake of "Citizen Kane."
True, there have been some changes in the plot. In the original, Kane tried to buy high political office for himself. In the new version, he just puts politicians on his payroll.
I mean that literally. As Politico recently pointed out, every major contender for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination who isn't currently holding office and isn't named Mitt Romney is now a paid contributor to Fox News. Now, media moguls have often promoted the careers and campaigns of politicians they believe will serve their interests. But directly cutting checks to political favorites takes it to a whole new level of blatancy.

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.
General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.
Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

Thus was spawned "community journalism," clouding the line between the press and those we had a duty to cover. And the watchdog was willingly leashed, and became the frightened, whimpering lap dog of today.
So why not take it all the way--put the public players we used to cover directly on the media payroll?
The final step: Direct party and special interest control of the media. Fox is just foreshadowing what's already evolving.
And when the tea party gets its way and puts its chosen in office, they--the government the tea party allegedly hates--will be in charge of all media.
And you know what will happen next.
Makes you wonder how much the entire world (or political control thereof) would cost. But then again who creates the stuff ("money") in the first place? 1,000 yrs. ago it was silver; 2,000 years ago it was gold; 3,000 yrs. ago maybe something like sea shells.
1) "Too-big-to-fail",
2) "socialized risk", and
3) "direct party control of the media"
are all FRANCE-101 trademark characteristics .
I hope any patriots out there can see past the (red herring) trees, to the FOREST that has already been (financially) planted, and is now growing up.
Maybe you're okay with it; maybe you're not. But you should at least know what is happening (to your country & society).
Thanks, Fred.
The Birth of a Nation was sponsored by collectivist of the day. Collectivist believe in artificial group rights and ignore the rights of real individuals.
The tea Party is about individual rights - we all have them with no regard to what group we are a member or what group we are not a member of.
PS Jesus was a liberal.
You're being used, Tom. And when they're through with you, you, and your rights, will be tossed aside.
Sorry to sound all eastern, but you control yourself first, to have some hope of positively influencing others over the long-term.

In that revolution you speak of, won't the side with the money (i.e., the corp[orations) have the most guns, and, therefore, beat we the people again?
Ken Hall is correct. Overwhelming firepower, as in Afghanistan, could not conquer people with far inferior weapons (and ultimately could not convince locals of the right to invade their country no matter what the purported reason). For this election we need to hold our noses and vote for Democratic candidates and then organize for the next elections with a viable third party (Progressive or Green or Middle Class Party).
Anytime government does something for the good of all, the tea party call it socialism. They are so ignorant. If decent schools, healthcare, highways, education, cultural amenities and public libraries are socialism -- give me a big serving please!
They seem to think trillions should be spent running money down a manhole in the middle east killing the innocent, building infrastructure for foreign countries and doling it out to (the biggest portion) the contractors -- the greedy cronies of the Republican elite.
Spend it here in the U.S.A on John Q. Citizen and they go berserk!
