Rich writes: "Barack Obama has made his mistakes as a politician and as a president, but here is one thing he indisputably did right: pummel Mitt Romney with a volley of attack ads once Romney sewed up the Republican nomination."

What is sad to me is that Dems seem willing to show some spine and fight back with their political ads...but in chambers, they show no courage to fight the GOP. They rolled over on extending the Bush tax cuts for millionaires, they never put single-payer on the table even though it was clear that the GOP would collectively oppose Obamacare (even though less than a decade ago IT WAS THEIR PLAN)...and when it comes to neo-liberalist "Free Trade" bills, Dems are happy to work with the GOP in selling out our workers and sending their jobs to low-wage slave labor countries like China to enhance US multinational corporate profit margins. Ultimately these commercials are just part of the Corporatist Puppet Show, when the reality is that our Centrist Dems aren't going to change the status quo anymore than the GOP will. Some very powerful and wealthy interests who are being enriched by that status quo won't allow it, and will use their $$ to fight anybody that threatens their hegemony and control over Washington.

So truth-telling is the new "negative," I guess.

I think the Bain ad is awesomely done. It tells the truth and through the voices of those who have lived it and are still suffering from what Mitt did.

And he well NEVER tell the truth; he never has. Truth is not in the lexicon of this man or any RepubliGUMBALL.

Keep it up, Mr. President! Take that high road with the truth and nothing but the truth: People are suffering because of what Mitt Romney did; the country is blighted because of what Mitt Romney and his cronies did, and continue to do.

Nuke 'em, indeed, Mr. Rich!

N.

When will the DEMOCRATS drop the BOMB about MITT ROMNEY masquerading as a MICH STATE POLICEMAN after obtaining a UNIFORM while his father GEO. ROMNEY was MICH GOVERNOR? Isn't masquerading as a policeman a FELONY? He is alleged to have stopped people as a 'JOKE'!

Inoculating the public against GOP LIES is NOT negative. Tie Willard to GOP crazies, to save US all. Do in ads what media won't do: a straight forward telling of the truth. Scary enough.
24/7 until 6 months AFTER the election. Truth will KILL GOP.

Same ol' same ol'. The negative ads are only a bad thing a Democrat uses them.

What we are seeing (and have been for quite some time) is an attempted coup d'etat by the multinational corporations to take over the United States. First they took control of the Republican Party and then the media, both of which constantly lie about their true motives and intentions. Romney is secretive, yes, but so were Bush and Cheney, Poppy Bush and even Saint Reagan. That's no accident. Hillary was absolutely right about a "vast, right-wing conspiracy." They've been carefully advancing their chess pieces for decades. They kept advancing right-wing nominees to the Supreme Court to the point that they could steal the 2000 election, solidify the right-wing majority with two terms of Bush 2, and then give us Citizens United.

It used to be that an attempt to overthrow the government would get you put to death, like the Rosenbergs. And it still should.

+1 # Ralph Averill 2012-06-19 01:05
The Rosenbergs were convicted of giving US nuclear secrets to the Soviets, not an attempted overthrow of the government.

The government does not prosecute corporations or their officers for attempting to over through the government, it they did, JP Morgan and the Duponts would have been imprisoned in 1934 when they attempted to over through the US Government, look up the Business Plot!

-2 # John Locke 2012-06-19 15:28
Robert B: The Coup d'etat you refer to has also taken ovet the Democratic party. and all three branches of government, it is complete!

When are we GONNA put the NUMBERS on the table for DEMOCRAT sugar daddies verses Republican sugar daddies?

I mean .. I see these attacks but NO ACTUAL NUMBERS... but we KNOW Obama has been in fund-raiser mode at least six month longer than Romney and raise for his personal campaign at least 100 million dollars? I shouldn't make too much of that because the Obama Campaign has spent most of that money already.

If the USA billed Obama for his use of Air Force One for HALF of what it costs,m as he does do B.S. Presidential visits trying to hide his campaign mode fundraising .. I think ... he owes the USA ... about 40 Million dollars... more or less? Just saying .. are you people doing any math at all .. or just repeating the Democrat mantra .. Attack the GOP?

Obama is finally making strong moves and everybody is shocked. Remember, the alternative is Romney and a Tea Party Congress.

Or more of Obama and the enablers...

Hummm sounds like a band picture Obama and the enablers as a groiup!

Why is it ok for the media to attack Republicans and report how horrible the Republicans are, yet the Democrats (who have driven the US off the cliff from the supposed ditch of GW Bush), the Dems get the media's blessing? Obama is a disaster for the US economy and the media gives him a pass. GW did not play golf, especially when we had our military in direct action, but it is ok for Obama to play his 100th round of golf and no media attacks him...why is that? Nero fiddled while Rome burned is similar to Obama playing golf while our economy tanks further and further. Obama generates lots of rhetoric, but still produces no jobs. Obama doesn't really care about women's rights, or Latinos, or any other group except to use them for political expediency. Take for example his just announced through the back door amnesty dream crap. To hell with the constitution, Emperor Obama (soon to be with all the votes he can garner by illegal Executive Orders) will declare who is ok to get into the US legally or illegally, as long as he sways the vote for himself. Betcha Obama will have Eric Holder and his DoJ minions out there allowing as many illegals to vote as possible so the Obama Emperoship will be guaranteed. SCARY stuff this Obama Presidency, or is it Obama's means to reach Emperor???

What about Obama's 140 fundraisers for wealthy corporate donors at $30,000.00 per plate and that is in the last 9 months. You don't read about that and one of those fundraisers was with venture capital companies. You know, I've never worked for a poor man... Have any of you? Just curious....

"Robt Eagle"]Why is it ok for the media to attack Republicans"

Obama has gotten far more negative press than Romney despite the fact that Romney has yet to tell the truth about anything. Every single thing the Republicans stand for is damaging to the country and to the world. Nearly everything they stand for is based in hatred and fear. There is no such thing as an honest Republican in Washington, and anyone incapable of seeing that is completely ignorant of the facts, probably because they believe the lies that the most corrupt 1%er supporters pay for in Republican ads.

bingers: "Obama has gotten far more negative press than Romney"

The reason is what he has done, he is the president and under a microscope!

Yes the Republican's lie, that is part of the make up of a republican. They don't know what the truth is, but hasn't Obama also lied to us, he says one thing then does the opposite, to me that is lying!

+9 # Ralph Averill 2012-06-19 01:10
G.W. Bush took more vacation time than any president, before OR after. The damage done by his gang of thieves, thugs, and whores, and the obstruction by that same gang to the efforts of Obama to set things right, is one of the great crimes in American history.

'Bout time the POTUS unleashed the hounds. All I can do is chortle about the GOPphers accusations of dirty pool. Do do doesn't feel good when it comes flyin' back at ya does it? I want to see a street brawl in which no holds are barred by the Dems because in the past trying to take the high ground gave us Dufus Bush and look where we are now. A draft "evader" and his co-president a 5-time draft dodger did in an actual combat veteran because he tried to maintain decorum when B.S. was flung. The morale: Don't bring a knife to a gun fight. The GOP is the party of Richard Nixon, Lee Attwater, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, androgenous Ann Coulter, Dick Cheney and various other transvaginal probers. If we can't have professionalism , then, let's have in your face entertainment. I want to see a rumble with _ _ _holes and elbows flying in every direction. If Dems go down, dammit, going down bloody.

I read some of the Frank Rich article but found it too long. The history of negative ads in American history is interesting but only to a point. That current Democrats should but don't blast Republicans enough is self-evident.

Why "nuke" though? I hate the word. Why not "skewer?" Or just laugh Mittens to the end of next week? Why not hook both warmongers-- Barack and Mittens-- right off of the presidential stage? Neither belongs there, you know.

You heard me, reader. Talk about their lack of economics all you want-- but where they suck worse is in their endless love of mindless, needless (and expensive!) war.

Replace both with someone who isn't a coward, won't play to the universal fears, will stand up to all the gratuitously violent dudes and dames in American society.

I believe Glenn Greenwald when he says the chances of a repeat 9-11 are far greater now because of our American pushing of war, torture, soul-rotting secrecy, persecuting the messenger, cyber-attacks, kill the innocents, etc., etc.

In this most important regard, there isn't a dime's or a trillion's difference between either of our two murderous coward/candidates.

Two yellow-bellied slimeballs? This is a choice?

+5 # Bodiotoo 2012-06-18 14:39
The choice is getting out and finding a Congressional Candidate that can win and has a soul. The House needs to be the Peoples House.

Absolutely! It's all about Congress in 2012!

Thinking of the Daisy ad, I'd love to see an ad displaying Romney's positions that would lead to a Hunger Games and/or The Handmaiden scenario. As Rich suggests, there's so much Romney material to work with here, and all of it could lead to the sad worlds in these two books.
