Breitbart did not edit the video it was given to him probably by the NAACP. Sherrod new Breitbart was going to air it; that is why she emailed emailed the head of the USDA and the deputy a week prior to the release. A couple of amazing things are: why did the audience of NAACP members laugh when they heard of how the poor white farmer had been treated? Why is Sherrod prejudice against anyone, white, poor, rich, black, and so on? What has changed with Sherrod that now qualifies her for a much higher level position now? Could it possibly be she could sue and win a huge discrimination case against the USDA?
Assuming she did change her ways years ago and is no longer racist, is she any better by practicing class warfare?

With statements like "he's very intelligent"(referring to President Obama) Never heard you state in my life time whether a white president was intelligent. The first black President and you can even give him credit for all the work has pushed congress to get done in a short time. No one in the history of the presidency has done what he has. It's almost laughable to see Breitbart, Beck, & other right wingers who promoted this story and trashed Mrs. Sherrod weasel out of it. Now it's about Breitbart being set up and discredited. I hope she does sue the pants off this guy. Any trained reporter would have vetted the story first and listened to the entire tape. None of this is true. Andrew Breitbart got the video from an anonymous source at the company that produced the recording under contract not from the NAACP. Sherrod could not have sent an e-mail to the head of the USDA a week before the fraudulently edited video because that release happened less than a week after the comments were made. As to the laughter, the speech was not about her racism, but her coming to understand that, even though she was working for a private organization whose mission was to help blacks being discriminated against by the USDA, she could still help poor whites who were in the same boat.
She did, by the way, save the white man's farm.

No. How about holding those who use the nation's airwaves to promote one political party at the expense of the other major party (Fox News) responsible for their actions. The untermensch Rupert Murdoch should not have the right to broadcast anything. Fox News does not serve the public interest. Fox should be stripped of their license to broadcast unless they can demonstrate at least an iota of fairness. "Fair and Balanced" -- what ignorant crap.

Good journalism may be why the network news media didn't report right away on the matter - sometimes it takes a minute to verify reports, especially from suspect sources. Journalism schools teach ethics and standards - whether students learn them and practice them is another matter. At the same time, let us not be confused about what is journalism. In many of these instances involving new media and bloggers, such as with self-proclaimed journalist Breitbach, it's a terrible case of deception. Another reason why we've got to support the Fourth Estate.

The only thing that continues to puzzle me is how intelligent people in powerful positions could take any Fox news story at face value and fire someone immediately without a complete investigation. So many people still consider Fox news a news station. I just find this sad.

It's clear that conservatives don't care about facts and/or truth, but when their lies and disinformation have consequences in the real world (as in this sad tale, and the buildup to the Iraq war), it has to be taken seriously, exposed for what it is, and completely and totally denounced. One thing I learned in high school is that you have to go to the original sources and read/view them yourself. That Vilsack would act without checking the original videotape is evidence of sloppy thinking and negligence on his part. Knowing the source, Breitbart/Fox, and knowing their history of fabrication and propaganda, he should have been suspicious. Vilsack has shown himself incompetent and should resign.

You mean to tell me there's no legal recourse for Shirley Sherrod to hold these yo yo's liable for what they did? What happened to Defamation of Character and Slander, and this orchestrated attempt to defame this woman? Through this deliberate manipulation of words and context she most certainly has experienced pain and suffering to add to her grievances, and those responsible should pay dearly! Do you want to see a curtailment in this kind of behavior on behalf of people, organizations, and an irresponsible media? Sue those responsible to the fullest extent of the law for very very significant monetary damages. Anyone attempting to utilize the US media in such a manner should bare the burden of proof, and if they can't prove it they have to suffer the consequences.

This isn't the first time that the public was intentionally given incomplete and out of context statements intended to mislead. I am quite sure most of us can think of another such case! Unfortunately this will also NOT be the last such case. Our media is totally untrustworthy. Once we had better. But in those days, we had a different set of rules. Anyone wishing to, determine who the biggest crooks in the country are might look into this and find out who changed those rules. Not to point in any particular direction, but in case you need help, you might just narrow your search to this: which neoCon dominated Republican Party demanded the rules changes? (But I'll be fair. When the Republicans lost, the neoCons found that they could just as easily control the Democrats. Consider Obama's very first appointment, a neoCon of the neoCons.

Sadly, I believe the neocons will regain full control of this country in the next two elections. Why? Well, Obama really didn't win by the landslide that he should have, even with a supercharged base and a disgusted electorate across the board. GWB was the worst of the worst and people wanted the wrongs righted. It hasn't happened and won't happen so the "hope" that was alive before will dwindle and the next GWB will be in there before you know it.

Gay rights sunk Al Gore in 2000. Illegal immigration is going to sink Democrats in 2012. Mark my word. I'm not happy about it, but that's the way it's going to play out.
