Charlayne Hunter-Gault writes: "He set a standard of conduct to which leaders of any age should aspire. Nelson Roulihlahla Mandela is celebrating his 93rd birthday today, marking still another milestone in a life that few, perhaps not even Mandela himself, could have imagined. The boy who, like all other boys in his rural South African village of Qunu, herded sheep and kicked around a soccer ball in the rolling hills, may have dared to dream, but in those early years of the 20th century, no young black South African like himself, even one of royal lineage, would have dreamed the dream of his journey from prisoner to president of his country and icon of the world."

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

"would have been no Nelson Mandela without Muammar al-Qathafi may be an exaggeration, because Nelson Mandela was born first. However, Muammar al-Qathafi's contribution to the African continent is second to none, operating in two phases: first helping to liberate Africans from the yolk of slavery called colonialism and imperialism and secondly, in modern times, implementing the African Union."

...a man of principles...there are not many like him today who would be willing to make personal sacrifices for the sake of principles....Happy Birthday, Nelson!

Mandela, like Martin L. King,Jr., Obama, Jomo Kenyetta, and other western corporate media creations, has done more damage to the cause of African Liberation than can be imagined. Like Kenyetta of Kenya, he allowed the racist industralists and bankers to keep all of their stolen resources, land and wealth and to give nothing to the masses but "the vote." Whereas, leaders with true revolutionary vision, insight and love the their people like Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Gaadafi of Libya, Chavez of Venezuela and others, are deemed to be mad men by the global racist media. Mandela is a traitor to the black people of South Africa. It would have been more heroic and noble to die in prison rather than to exchange the peoople's resources for a few senile years of freedom. Freedom isn't something that can be given; it must always be taken.
