Olzen reports: "The Obama administration continues to defend its right to violate the rights of the people it is supposed to govern. On August 6, Department of Justice lawyers filed an appeal in federal court against a recent ruling that temporarily enjoined section 1021 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which gives powers to the military to indefinitely detain U.S. citizens - on U.S. soil - without charge or trial."

Comments

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

This act combined with the "Felony to protest within 1000 feet of an elected federal Official" act, and Obama is well on his way to becoming our dictator or king. Where are all of this big Obama supporters on this act?

I have been signing petitions and making phone calls opposing it. I emailed the White House.
On occasion when asked for money I tell them "no". There is no money for a man who does not work to keep us free.
However, he will still get my vote over Romney because I feel Romney will take our freedom and more. At this point a Third party can not win. What was wrong with Congress, and the Republican House when they had a chance to amend it and they did not?

Virtually all my friends remain Obama supporters. Midwest Tom asks where they are on this act.

Believe it or not, many of them tell me "Obama would not do that". Others acknowledge that he did do it, but say "he's still better than Romney."

I have asked what it would take for Obama to be unacceptable to them as the next president, and I get shined on. Apparently, his being a democrat means he can do no wrong in the eyes of fellow democrats.

I think this attitude is one of the biggest problems of the 21st century, and it sucks.

Obama and his great cabinet! Holder won't go after bankers that rip off every person in the US, but goes after people trying to protect their civil rights. DINO! (Dem. in name only)

Here is the biggest unasked question about the NDAA: Since the candidates are fighting so viciously against one another, why have Romney and Ryan NOT said anything about this action? I find it raises serious portents about what a Republican presidency with a Republican congress would do to us. Obama was incredibly wrong to sign this act, BUT, for our nations future, he really IS better than the alternative.
