How discouraged should one be by the story, in today's Washington Post, that "President Obama's advisers are nearing a recommendation" that the Administration abandon its plans to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and others accused of planning the September 11th attack in criminal court?

It is becoming more and more obvious that Rahm Emanuel is not working for the best interests of President Obama and the Democratic Party. He appears to be a not so well concealed Trojan Horse that has been foisted off on this President, just as he was in the Clinton Administration. Just who is this man really working for, anyway ? I think that is The Question that must needs be answered. President Obama should replace him for someone of his own choosing and not listen to 'advice' that is contrary to his promised goals for the American people that elected him.

Michael Moore has offered to take Rahm Emanuel's place. Why not let him? Not that he could 'fix' everything, but for a while at least Moore would have credibility with the American people - something in very short supply these days. Military tribunals are a natural result, not so much of the so-called war on terror or terrorists but of the Patriot Act that has provisions not unlike those used by the Nazis in their Nacht-und-Nebel (night-and-fog)arrests where anybody could disappear, seldom or never to be heard from again. I just can't understand conservative opposition to terrorism trials. Are they afraid of fair and open trials? If not that, then what?

I say: Put the accused terrorists in the dock (as has been done before going back to Nuremberg and before) and let us all follow the procedings. Sure, the accused will make a show of it and say outrageous stuff. So what? So did Goering. The end result is the same: The thugs will either walk or swing according to our traditional methods and standards. No embarrassing secret procedings necessary.

Why is it any more complicated than that?

Is Cheney going to testify at the Mohammed trial? This time without holding Bush's hand and this time under oath and on the record?
