This has GOT to be stopped. It breaks my heart that so much that is wrong and awful and disgusting is happening to the people of the US in the name of the almighty $$$.

Yet, YET, we are not "ENTITLED" to affordable health care?? We are not "ENTITLED" to clean air? sound and safe roads? decent housing and care for our poor?

I don't know how we will ever fix this country after the decimation by corrupt politicians getting in bed with corrupt corporations. It seems to never, ever end.

N.

Oh NanFan, so correct and pointed in the good over evil direction you are, just as are the oh so brave and determined Eleanor and Darryl.

When we women do our womanly, 'protect our children' thing and put our own lives/freedom on the evil chopping block in order to protect our kids, our/their earth, and strive harder than hard for peace and justice for all, then and only then will the pendulum swing. Let's not give up hope. My prediction: Good shall prevail.

Gov. Goodhair never yet met a well-heeled corporation he didn't love, especially one that donated to his political funds.

Land of the Free??? Free to 'rape and pillage' the environment in the name of big dollar, it seems

I do NOT understand why Obama can not stop that damned pipeline. Our foremost NASA climate scientist, James Hansen said: "If the Tar Sands Pipe line is constructed, it is game over for the planet."

He is not joking. We HAVE to pay attention to what serious scientists are warning us about.

We MUST think about our children, and act to try to counteract the damage to come. It is already here!! They will never forgive us If we do not act.

The president or anyone connected to the government, state or federal, will put an end to this. In fact, both parties are in favor of drilling, fracking, exploiting. That exercise in land destruction will be the end of the U.S. as a once beautiful country. There is already an enormous amount of pollution with related diseases. Just ask the Koch brothers. Ask them about Crittenten Arkansas.

X, unfortunately Obama listens to his circle of advisors, and the difference between him and a Romney presidency is that Obama actually will listen if you knock him over the head with a 2x4 first. Ask Jon Soltz of VoteVets.

Our military is in Afghanistan defending our rights and freedom? We need them in Texas. But oh, I forgot, the oil companies need them in the middle east to defend their access to oil there...stupid of me to forget...

Destruction of my home? Time to start blowing up the tar sands equipment and everything associated with these murderous criminals. That goes for the Texan legislature that is causing this, the legislators' and employees' vehicles, etc. of the tar sands rape. Earth First or someone like that is going to start being a major pain in the ass to these people and equipment just like this destructive criminal company and employees of it. So, who supports Obama, Romney or our government who is enabling raping its citizens, We The People, by taking our land? Anyone other than the 1%?

It's time for Americans to stand up on their hind legs and throw out foreign companies that want to ravage our land, steal our rights of private property and all, in order to export the filthiest product thus far dragged from Canada's earth.

Keystone has ignored American's rights and made this abomination possible through corrupt politicians. Now it's time for Americans in general and Texans in particular to fight back on any level that is possible. These corrupt oil men and their bought and paid for political hacks don't seem to understand justice and morality the way we have tried to bring it to them. Maybe they need some old fashioned Texas style justice. How many of these mercenaries will be willing to sit in the cab of a bulldozer when the threat becomes serious.

I suggest everyone read: "Radical Peace". The first and best way to hit such criminals is in their pocketbooks. That meands taking out the equipment, put water in the gas tanks of vehicles (company and employee and suppliers and employee families and so on), and other tanks of whatever they contain - it is all killing us and our land; loosen lug nuts on wheels just enough...; knife the tires; get creative with radical peace. That is what animals and survivalists (we who want to survive against massive odds) like us The People do when we are threatened, when we have to fight for our lives. And, as the Urbancurmudgeon says, yes foreign companies but let us not limit this to foreign companies but to all companies like Keystone, including fracking companies like Bill Barrett Co., Halliburton, the list goes on ... Make it too expensive, in equipment at first. Include Perry the vapid dolt Gov. of Taxus, his vehicles, his offices, his family vehicles, his gas line into his home, his water line into his home and offices. Remember, these greedy rapists are threatening our survival. This is not a time to lie down and be run over and die. They are our mortal enemies when they remove and poison our water. Isn't water necessary for survival, drinking, crops, etc.? Isn't poisoning and stealing water something that requires the ultimate solution?

Since when does the U. S. government confiscate citizens' land for a foreign corporation, forcibly? When is our govt. going to get serious about developing the alternatives that will make the dinosaurs of oil and natural gas obsolete? When is the denial of this destruction of our environment going to stop? Mr. President, we are waiting for you to act!

+2 # indian weaver 2012-10-06 06:54
The time for our president to act is gone. He is the cause of this outrageous rape. He is one of the enemy. He enabled it, approved it. He's no good. We have no time for obama the liar greedy arrogant assassin and torturer to act. His time is over. He's history as a leader, never was a leader. We are the power if we choose to be courageous and accept our challenge not to be poisoned to death.

JanisL, remember those international trade "agreements" that Ralph Nader warned us not to sign? This is the reason. Multi-nationals have the same (actually, far more!) rights than private citizens and in the almight name of their holy profits can kick you off your land and relegate you to the status of second class citizen (using the government's power of eminent domain).
Still believe there is no class war in the world and in our republic?

+14 # bluesapphire48 2012-10-06 06:19
Private companies simply should not be able to use "eminent domain." Period. If our Supreme Court was not a creature of private capital, we could put an end to it. This sort of thing has been going on since the first white man stepped on this continent and shot a Native American.

Hanna quietly puts herself & her money where her mouth is; we remember her support of urban gardeners several years ago. Well done, once again. The Tar Sands disaster is Canada's current great disgrace (& I'm Canadian).

These people are being bullied by Obama's wishy washy stand on the environment. Activists like Hanna walk with Judi Bari, Cactus Ed Abby, David Brower. People who gave unsparingly of their time and treasure to save America from American greed and criminality. Why isn't the great mind our master, Mr. Obama, at least representing Fairchild's defense. We are being ruled not governed.

How can anyone vote for Obama?

Tar sand pipeline: game over for the planet.

Droneattacks/kill list: game over for
justice.

Indefinite detention: game over for
democracy.

Vote morally and ethically: VOTE GREEN!

+2 # indian weaver 2012-10-07 04:25
Or vote Justice Party's Rocky Anderson. We have at least these 2 candidates who would be far superior presidents to obama or romney. Vote your conscience no matter what. do not vote for the "lesser of 2 evils" whoever that may be. We have 2 evils from the D's and R's from which to choose unless you choose Green or Justice Party.

The State of Texas sent a big bad S.W.A.T. team member to arrest Daryl Hannah and Great Grandmother Eleanor Fairchild! With this display of force one would think they were a grave threat instead of careful stewards of the land Fairchild cherishes. How did TransCanada take the sovereign property rights of Fairchild? Why were Fairchild’s trees cut and burned against her will? Did Fairchild have the option of harvesting the majestic trees for lumber? Are there violations for air pollution from the fires and smoke? . Are the property owners compensated for the use of their land? Are they compensated yearly? Are they compensated for the loss of their livelihood for as long as they planned to remain on the land?

The real threat is Koch Industry subsidiary TransCanada. Billionaire Koch brothers are violating the rights of property owners. Their Keystone tar sands pipeline is indeed a threat to the health of the Midwest from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico. Who will be held accountable for toxic contamination of wetlands and drinking water? Are there safety measures in place in case of wildfires?

Why will these American citizens suffer for the profit of the Koch Brothers and Canada? This pipeline is nothing more than a hazard traveling a vast distance through our nation. Who is protecting the rights of the property owners?
