The voice will be silenced no more. Current TV has announced that its new show with Keith Olbermann will debut on June 20 at 8 p.m.

The show, to be called "Countdown With Keith Olbermann," marks the return to the airwaves for Olbermann, one of journalism's most provocative and outspoken voices and hero of the liberal left. Olbermann's decision to join Current was announced in February, shortly after he had a not-so-amicable parting with MSNBC.

In addition to executive producing and hosting his show, Olbermann was appointed as Current's Chief News Officer.

"'Countdown to Keith Olbermann' will showcase the return to television of one of America's most gifted thinkers and communicators," said Joel Hyatt, co-founder and Executive Vice Chairman of Current in a press release. "Keith will be back, speaking truth to power and calling them as he sees them - but this time, on America's only independent news and information TV network."

"The show will combine familiar and popular features with some new elements that we can't wait to unveil," said Mark Rosenthal, CEO of Current. "We're creating a great platform for Keith's style, which includes a very sophisticated digital presence for him - that we think will appeal to his very enthusiastic and active following. The show will also appeal to new viewers tuning into Keith for the first time."

Current, which was founded in 2005 by Al Gore and Hyatt, is counting on Olbermann to put the cable channel on the map. Current is distributed in more than 75 million households around the world, but has failed to build much buzz until now. -- San Jose Mercury News

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

I hope we can see the show in the regular package of Verizon Fios. Would be a great service to the country.

do you know if Verizon is carrying the station?

Congratulations and best of luck with the new show. We are not sure if we get Current TV, but if not we will watch online. We really miss your program and are looking for a long run for us to be with you again.

I missed you so much, I'm glad you are back on television!!!

Keith,
America needs a voice of reason to counteract the vile and ugly lies from the "right" that has dominated the airwaves for so long. You are that voice of reason.
Welcome back to the arms and hearts of so many who missed your intelligent and informative conversation.

777PIC, The San Jose Mercury News in announcing Keith's return to the airwaves writes, "one of journalism's most provocative and outspoken voices and hero of the liberal left." You were more astute in your observation about American needing a "voice of reason." The moment the Mercury News "branded" Olbermann "a voice of the liberal left" they subtly condemned him to a particular audience. Being called a "liberal" has become poison. Thirty years of corporate sponsored propaganda has accomplished that. Olbermann is a sound, impassioned, critical thinker not a "neanderthal shouter" like many of his right wing counterparts. The "folks" last summer who wandered around with "keep your damn hands off my Medicare signs" might want to overlook the "liberal smear" and tune in. They most certainly are in need of some "honest" facts versus the distortions they've been accustomed to swallowing. Welcome back Keith!

I know that my cable company does not carry Current TV and if they were to add it I'm sure it would be in the super expensive digital package.

This is the problem with true progressive media--no one can get it without being in a major city and/or paying through the nose. This cannot compete with FOX which can be picked up through the air with a simple antenna for free! How will we ever prevail and get to the common man? Yikes, I sure wish I could watch it.

I beg to differ. We have DISH network, (no, not Cable), which we upgraded to include MSNBC, to be able to see Keith. It wasn't many months from then, that Keith was torn away from us - out here in rural Idaho. Devastation! Until we found that Current TV, is included in the top 200 channels we had upgraded to! Praise be! The good (though poor) life we had as FOK, will resume, if not soon enough - it WILL resume. Thanks, Al Gore - and yes, we voted for you.....

I get Free Speech TV on Dish Network, channel 9415, with GRIT TV, Democracy Now, and Thom Hartmann. I also get LINK TV, channel 9410, which has progressive programs.

Keith, you're the best!

"Current, which was founded in 2005 by Al Gore and Hyatt, is counting on Olbermann to put the cable channel on the map."

This may just be the smartest thing that Gore and Hyatt could have done and the biggest understatement of expectations in recent broadcast history.

I dumped MSNBC when they dumped Keith. But do us all a favor Keith; Dump the "Thursdays with Thurber" thing. It was a nice gesture to a friend but truly a bad idea. You are strongest when you do your "Special Comments" and "Worst Persons" segments. Yes; There are some truly bad people that need to be distinguished as "the worst" in the world; Even if just for that week :-)

It was "Fridays with Thurber" and Keith's tribute to, and bond with, his just-deceased father. Don't begrudge Keith and don't disdain Thurber, a major American author. As for Keith's particular hallmarks, they're great to watch but they're not the entirety of his reportage. I'll be happy to tune in to all that he has to offer us -- and hope the TV providers don't gouge us for Current.

Keith!
Can't you begin your new "Countdown" in May? There is a Cascadia earthquake warning off the Pacific West Coast, the Juan de Fuca subduction zone, that may start moving by mid-June. From Canada to Mexico, such a disaster would be everyone's concern. The Pacific "Ring of Fire" is awake and is very dangerous now.
Get your new show and channel started in May, please!
PS: everyone should get away from the coast and far away from the water.
Good Luck!
LH

No one "speaks truth to power" the way Keith Olbermann does, unless it is Cindy Sheehan and she doesn't have a nationally syndicated TV show. Characterizing Olbermann's positions as "liberal left" is a vast oversimplificat ion. What Keith does like no one else is to speak out directly on political abuse, not dressing his comments up with pretty rhetoric the way the Big O politician does. Welcome back, Keith!

I was particularly outraged at the brutal treatment you received at the hands of the corporate cretins now in charge at your former network. I wrote an article titled "The Political Killing Of Keith Olbermann" (www.weareseers.blogspot.com) which got some serious consideration. I'm delighted you'll be back on TV in time to be a factor in the run-up to next year's presidential election. The right has already drawn a line in the sand, declaring war on Obama and our entire democratic process. You'll be needed more than ever to set the record straight in the face of the coming conserative tsunami which will seek to overwhelm us with the greatest propaganda machine ever constructed in human history. Good luck, Knock-Out Keith, in your new position as America's Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Get the program out and on the airwaves. On line alone won't do it but get the exposure on the airwaves to the great ideas and good luck Keith.

I know this is going to really piss off the Kockroaches.... but what a way to start a day, good news from Keith. I recall the night he called the president (small 'p') "a liar" then a minute later "a goddamn liar!" I thought he was toast then, and eventually they did get him on a piss ant technicality... .but in the words of Arnold, "I'm back!" Go get 'em Keith.
My respect for the DISH Network just went up a notch since they carry Current TV (#196).

I'm an old fart and like to think of Olbermann is the Walter Cronkit of this generation. If they would just listen and get those Ipod things out of your ears, take off your,'I be a bad ass sun glasses' and look around and see all the asses in this world and wipe em out, they stink! Welcome back Kieth.. I've seen the best of the best die for reason's that are beyond my common sense and sense of decency and respect.. It's still going on.. The best die for the rest and they don't give a damn.. I know some do, you probably have some one you know in the service. My hope is for them to stop and come home and take care of home and family... The rest of the world can do the same for themselves. We have enough people here and problems of our own to take care of. Some are standing up to dictators and tyranny around the globe, just happens to be the oil countries, coincidence ya know? As John Lennon said," Just give me some truth!" Kieth will. Cpl. Pierson, 101st Airborne, Vietnam, Son of the American Revolution,Pvt. Shadrack Pierson, 1st Virginia and his triplet brothers Abindigo and Meashack.. Pearson/Pierson Triplet Society.com God Bless us all.. Come on God,you can do it! " When life brings you to your knees, your in a good position to pray." You've got most of us on our knees now. Good time to bless us all, so come on God. Do your almighty thing. Be the best!

The longer the time Kieth was off MSNBC the more apperant it became how unique and important not to mention entertaining his show was. I just hope this venue will eventually give the same access for the public to view his show. It will be fun to see his new range in action. GO Kieth!

By the way, Keith is a hero to the true thinkers in liberal, moderate, progressive, and even conservative camps. Only the idiots and the brainwashed diss him.

Now let's all print copies of President Obama's birth certificate and shove them up Donald Trump's ass...

Well back to more useless tripe.listening to KO will just further inflame America. None of these idiots have any sense. And they really outdo themselves to prove it.Unless your unemployed like ...probably most of KO's audience you know that they do not have the working persons best interests at heart.
I expect the same ole blather with a liberal twist.....Produ cing absolutely nothing and yet with all the answers.
It was not without some honest examination that reporters and talk show "hosts" were rightly labeled Merchants of Chaos.

what is the difference?they spout THEIR brand of slop and "we the people" rant and rave and get screwed.Which poly tic shun doesn't try to suck the very heart from our bodies and then want more?? we are duped into believing they have our interests in their hearts all the while turning the knife in our backs. The talk shows want our dollars, the politicians want our dollars and we are left with empty promises and a hope the next one will actually do what he says.I have many employees and I try to be a "Republic" with them ,we share the spoils and the losses,we take care of each other and we get what we sow. I know the difference and you can see right past the crap when you practice what is preached. Our founding fathers knew also.I just think they could not fathom how low people could sink.

Both Dish Network and Direct TV include the FOX Network garbage in their basic packages... so Fox braggs about their huge cable ratings. If Dish and Direct bumped Fox from basic, how many viewers would Fox get to claim. To get MSNBC and Current I must pay more money. I sure wish it was the other way around.

Welcome back Keith! I hope you will consider giving Matt Taibbi a forum on your time slot. We need more insights into the bank heist and the big banks continuation of the same games that make them "too big to fail". Another expert on this topic is your colleague at MSNBC - Dylan Radigan. Consider giving him a platform as well.

Wishing you the best in your new position
