Anthony DePalma reports: "New documents have emerged showing that federal officials in Washington and New York went further than was previously known to downplay concerns about health risks, misrepresenting or concealing information that ultimately might have protected thousands of people from the contaminated air at ground zero."

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

Every single person who thinks any health problem they have is even remotely connected to 9/11 should get all the best health care possible free of charge to them!! Yes, our government should and can pay for it!! Just take a good chunk out of the military budget without hurting a single veteran or their family and give it to those involved with 9/11. The government could do a great deal to control healthcare costs if they wanted to. For example, let the government cut deals with Canada for drugs! Or better yet Congress should pass a bill requiring big pharma to make all their drugs generic within 4-5 years! That should be plenty of time for them to make a big profit off name brand drugs at the prices they over charge!

_____________

How about EVERY CITIZEN of this country should get the best health care possible? Not for free, but for a reasonable monthly rate either deducted from their earnings or paid individually. The only reason that a single-payer health care system isn't a reality in America is that those who benefit from the status quo job the system and spread misinformation to keep the masses ignorant. It's time to elect officials willing to work for We The People.

I lived and worked in Lower Manhattan until the end of 2000. Because I do freelance, I kept my NYC phone number & had all mail forwarded, so on paper it looked like I still lived there. After 9-11 I started getting health questionnaires. At the time I wondered: If the air/environment was as safe as claimed publicly, why all these health questionnaires? ....

Ever notice how Rudy Giuliani's name never appears in stories like this one?
It's remarkable that he could have been hailed as the hero of Ground Zero, especially since he was running the whole show.
The problem was that all he could think to do was exhort all the workers to get the clean-up done ASAP as though no safety precautions were ever required.
All of the thousands of affected workers have him (and others ) to blame for the death sentence they're under.

If the Feds pulled off this job, they would want to terminate as many witnesses as possible. One way to do this is to hide the health dangers from the first responders so as to destroy their health and eliminate their witness. This they have done.

This is not incompetence , it is an act of warfare against not only the first responders but also against all Americans as we see from the subsequent legislation which the feds have used to try and destroy our God given unalienable rights.

To know what was in the plume and the rest of the site, Anyone who wanted to know could have asked a chemist, like I did my brother(I lived down there at the time), telling him there was a PCB insulated substation in the base along with plastics, asbestos fire protection if it was safe...he said get the hell out with in a minute. We were lied to. The EPA and Whitman knew from the beginning that this was an environmental disaster and did everything possible to cover it up.

why is anyone surprised? governments and bureaucrats (which are the same thing) have but one function in life- to protect their lousy jobs! did you notice how many times the phrase "defend their (his, her) position (performance)" was used in that article?
no one would care to defend the citizens, residents, 1st responders- who gives a shit about them? let's just put on a rosy face and defend our position and save enough money so we can keep our jobs.

common sense alone would tell you that the air COULD NOT have been safe, no matter what rigged test results were trotted out as reassurance. how many plastic waste paper baskets were incinerated on that day? that alone would be enough to kill an army!
and while you're at it, eat grain fed meat, subject your breasts to annual radiation, put a microwave power communication device up to your head, keep your cholesterol at artificially low levels and drink fluoridated water. they'll all totally safe, according to the government. please ignore the rise in obesity, cancer and diabetes 2. just an unfortunate coincidence.
the government will always side with the money making corporations. you have to be a revel to survive
