The Democrats say they want to extend unemployment benefits, the Republicans say they will not. The Democrats are in control, but the Republicans are controlling the agenda.

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

The Republicans are sealing their fate. They will be despised for being so petty by trying to keep Obama from looking good. Sure, they can go along with trillions of dollars for the military, but trying to help out twelve million down and out U.S. citizens--heaven's NO! Today's Republican party is totally off its rocker. Even my Republican friends are embarrassed! This is definitely not a good way for their party to win friends, votes and influence people! They will by smashed in the upcoming elections. Is vengeance really worth it, you Republicans? You may have the first laugh, but certainly not the last laugh!

Maybe the Democrats lack the guts to take on the heathens who have made it their national policy to take down this administration.

The Republicans do well what they do best---and that is to stop anything resembling helping the less than rich Americans and the Dems appear to do well what they do best and that is to fractionalize their party and cower.

They should go for a public filibuster and then let the American people decide who is preventing America from moving forward.

This is just another cynical ploy of the Republicans to worsen the economy so that they blame Democrats (who after all are supposedly in power) for our economic plight. Another prong of their attack is to complain loudly about the deficit, as if that were the cause of all our problems. Unfortunately, most Democrats, including Obama, appear to have fallen for this ploy and are actually helping the Republicans in their goal of cutting more and more of the government spending that could help get us out of this recession. Meanwhile, Republicans continue to push for more military spending, the biggest cause of the deficit, and tax cuts, the second biggest cause, and subsidies for powerful corporations, the third biggest cause. They are actually still trying to increase the debt (and succeeding). Too bad the Democrats are too stupid to see what is happening, and of course the conservative Democrats are doing everything they can to help the Republicans.

The Dems should attach the unemployment benefit extension to something the GOP really wants or can't say no to like aid to Israel.
