Schneider reports: "At the General Assembly meeting last night, Occupy Wall Street's dreamer contingent got a very special valentine: the GA endorsed the Direct Action Working Group's proposal to call for a general strike on May Day - May 1, 2012."

Occupy Wall Street: Take the Bull by the Horns

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

This international concept, GENERAL STRIKES, will require CUMMULATIVE CONFIDENCE MEASURES.

The purpose of General Strikes is to eliminate support for class, mainstream, corrupt, empire parties and their class politicians. That link needs to be established over time through rolling, international strikes, until there is a global revolt against all class politicians, promoting class hierarchies and the PATRIARCHAL CLASS MECHANISM.

Start off with a global call on May Day, an inernational day against fascist class politicians, Empire thugs, and Western fascist military alliances. This should be only a testing point to see what support we have.....

AND SHOULD BE FOLLOWED BY ROLLING GENERAL STRIKES BY DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, MOST AFFECTED, FROM GREECE, EUROPE TO EGYPT AND THE ARAB WORLD, and finally calling on the whole world to take down their class parties, class politicians, FASCIST THUGS.

INTERNATIONAL STRIKES AGAINST FASCIST AUSTERITY, FASCIST CAPITALISM, WESTERN FASCISM, FOR SOCIAL INDIVISIBLE MIDDLE CLASSES WHO HAVE TAKEN DOWN THEIR DESPOTIC, CORRUPT CLASS HIERARCHIES!!!

Chris is too cowardly, and corrupt to represent the social masses. He must focus on the totalitarianism , Fascism, Western, Late Capitalism, he serves, thus enslaving others and himself.

I wouldn't go getting all huffy and divisive, global citizen. Chris makes a point, and maybe he can convince the whole work place to shut down! What about those doing 'good' work that we appreciate and need? An irregular day off is a real pickle for some, and jobs are hard to get. Let's just make sure there are places to join and things to do after work. Some of us have done May Day demonstrations for decades. Where were you? I am so turned off when people get all hateful like Fox Tea Partiers.

The general strike is a good idea, but let's choose our battles and alliances carefully. I understand the need for allies and that all economically disadvantaged people have common goals; but I do not believe it is a good idea to side with those who promote or excuse illegal entry into this country. While I personally favor a humane solution to the problem of undocumented workers, and while I realize that civil disobedience is a necessary tactic, I fear that we blur our focus and risk losing widespread public support by adding on yet another issue in which we challenge existing law. Occupy could start to look less like a citizen's movement for economic justice and more like an all-purpose anarchist society.
