Alex Seitz-Wald reports: "Despite the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene this weekend, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today stood by his call that no more money be allocated for disaster relief unless it is offset by spending cuts elsewhere."

Cantor is from Virginia's 7th district and it looks like Richmond is in the 7th district. Didn't Richmond sustain some damage from Irene? I think it's time to vote in anyone else. Cutting funds from fuel efficient vehicles is ... so shocking I can't even come up with a word for it. As long as idiots like Cantor are elected people will continue to suffer. Perhaps cutting funds should first come from Cantor's district.

If so, none of it was his.

+44 # Kayjay 2011-08-29 17:38
Great idea michelle. Cut all hurricane relief to Cantor's home district. And then explain to voters why this came to be. Hopefully they will come to their senses and vote this tea bagging rat out of office in 2012.

Enough. Is there any real doubt that this is hostage-taking? We should not negotiate with terrorists.

Heck of a job, Eric! You belong in the FEMA Hall of Republican shame, right beside your manure-eating cronies, "Brownie" and Bush. Holding disaster victims hostage to budget cuts targeting the EPA, Social Security, health and social services, alternative energy, education... C'mon, have you been consulting with that pink, plump rectal nodule Karl Rove again? Strategy, always strategy!

+8 # Regina 2011-08-30 08:44
Cantor's cant isn't strategy, it's connivance, conspiracy, and all other variants of conning the public.

+13 # angelfish 2011-08-29 21:22
I hope his private parts ROT and DON'T fall off!

+28 # RCW 2011-08-29 21:23
By all means, Mr. Cantor, so long as we begin with two thirds of your salary and all of your congressional perks.

+11 # Sheila 2011-08-29 21:26
This man is a piece of garbage. How selfish can one be. I think Kayjay's idea is great!

+14 # Mary J 2011-08-29 22:11
There MUST be a "Cantor recall" in process, right???? He is a disgrace to his district, state and to our country.
Another narcissist with delusions of grandeur, incapable of feeling the shame he SHOULD feel. Too bad he didn't experience the terror and devastation personally during Katrina or Irene. He was somewhere sucking on his silver spoon, no doubt.

It's time the people gave the Congress a new mandate for governance.
No longer will our taxes be used bail out bad corporate debt without equal debt relief for the people.
No longer are our taxes to be used to provide backdoor financial support for USA corporate & military contractors through the humanitarian & military foreign aid. No longer is foreign aid to be used to keep nations in line.
No longer will our taxes be used for political patronage in the hiring mercenaries or privatizing government department loosing @ least 20% of budget to profit.
No longer will we allow tax loopholes for the privileged & corporation or subsidies for profitable corporations.
Defense depart must close at least 700 of the over 800 foreign bases
Time to end military occupation of all sovereign nation especially those we are not at war with. Must end all black op whose purpose is destabilization & regime change.
From now on the peoples taxes are to support the needs of the nation & its people not corporate profit.
A new government administered WPA to rebuild the nation & reduce unemployment by at least 3% not increase corporate profits but spendable income for the people. A private run WPA would take 30-40% of funding off the top for profits & administrative salaries.
If Cantor want to cut something cut Congressional salaries, benefits & travel

Amen to that!!!!

+3 # michelle 2011-08-30 08:22
We should make this mandate into a poster, print up thousands and post them all over towns and cities. Now that would be a good start to civil disobedience. Do we have your permission heraldmage to use your mandate?

The epicenter for last week's earthquake was in Cantor's district? If God is trying to tell him something, he's not listening.

His comment actually is a good one - theoretically, in an intelligently-r un country. There are many pork projects that should be cut, including one of Cantor's babies, the 30 billion dollars in in un-needed aid destined for Israel over the next ten years. But I did say "intelligently-r un" country.

Government of the people, by the people, for the people...NOT! Lincoln is blessed to not be around today to witness how his party has evolved.

Cantor is one of the most evil souls to ever roam the halls of Congress. The people of Virginia best make quick work of him and end this guy's vicious political career.

+3 # fredboy 2011-08-30 05:43
Michelle, no, Cantor does not represent Richmond. Redistricting made Richmond a strongly minority district. Cantor's crypt ranges from the hyper-conservat ive counties west of Richmond to Luray. Vicious, swift boat territory.

+2 # michelle 2011-08-30 08:25
Did he represent Richmond in the last election before redistricting? If not shame on district 7 and the people who voted for him.

+2 # billy bob 2011-08-30 05:59
Sounds like Cantor is another "libertarian".

NOTHING IS TOO low for these SCUM to practice. It looks like our "REAL WAR ON TERRORISM" is going to be voting these VERMIN OUT OF CONGRESS, PERMANENTLY! VOTE 2012!

While disaster relief is necessary on humanitarian grounds, Republicans know that it will create jobs and boost the economy.

+4 # Regina 2011-08-30 08:48
Sh! Don't tell them that -- because if they find out that disaster relief is humanitarian they'll kill it, or maybe approve only the supply of trailers reeking of toxic formaldehyde.

I'm sure that Obama is looking at Social Security and Medicare as I write this. He and Boehner are golf buddies, you know.

+8 # amye 2011-08-30 08:55
This Cantor guy is as evil as the rest of them! Who does he think he is holding humanitarianism hostage to the budget?? Thats sick. Get him out of office now!

+11 # Bill Clements 2011-08-30 10:49
Another lurid look at what present-day Republicans look like....and how far they're willing to go with their deficit cutting hysteria. Does anyone have a shred of doubt that these clowns lack the gene for compassion and care even, or especially, for those who are struggling under the weight and hardship of a natural disaster, unemployment, foreclosure, etc.? My God!

Which is worse, surviving and rebuilding after a hurricane, tornado, etc., or living under Republican rule? I think the latter. They are systematically destroying the very warp and woof of American life. They are a scourge that MUST be removed!

+4 # bigkahuna671 2011-08-30 15:24
Complaining about the voters in Cantor's district won't do a thing. Those folks have continued to reelect him despite his obvious lunacy, so they must take the hit if he supports cutting funds to FEMA. Of course, they could grow a brain and actually use it during the next election cycle, but that would take a true miracle...Oh Lord, come down and save us...please!!!

+4 # giraffee2012 2011-08-30 15:41
Cantor is the lowest troll who says one thing and does otherwise. He's bought and paid for by Koch (etc) -- thanks to the Supremes who gave "personhood" to $$ so we now have creeps like Cantor in Congress and more creeps running on the GOP/TP ticket for President.

We will never recover from Reagonimics and the Bush/Cheney/Rov e reign of terror -- do we want another in the W.H.?

If only some one would take Cantor to the back shed and show him what life is like under the crap that flows from his vocal cords ...

Vote 2012 - dont let another GOP/TP take us ALL THE WAY TO HELL

+1 # VSweet 2011-08-31 19:34
Cantor with all the Republicans and T baggers have one set goal and that is to get rid of Obama as President.

Because of their dirty politics they are putting peoples livihood affected by the Hurricane Irene on hold. How stupid can you get Cantor, Boehner and the rest of the Republican puppets for the T Party?

America you are getting a real wake up call by the Republicans and it was not President Obama who withdrew his hand to help victims of Hurricane Rita.
