Intro: "In March, Italy reluctantly joined the NATO-led mission to implement a no-fly zone to protect Libyan civilians, offering up seven airbases and it's own Tornado fighter jets for the cause. But now that the mission has turned into a full-fledged offensive to oust Muammar Gaddafi at any cost, Italians want out. 'An immediate cessation of hostilities is necessary,' said Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini on Wednesday. 'We have seen the effects of the crisis and also of NATO action.'"

answering destruction with even greater destruction has proven to be a poor excuse for a foreign policy. giving ppl the choice of either submitting or dying only issues an invitation to terrorism.
@dickmail- while i'm sure that global politics, including zionism, figure into the conflicts in the ME, zionism certainly isnt the sole cause. it is not helpful to imply that israel is at the root of ALL evil. the usa and the entire western front are certainly part of the problem.

Good for Italy. I hope it does pull out and I hope it calls an emergency meeting of NATO so that all members of NATO can weigh in on the invasion of Libya. I'm pretty sure that the majority of NATO countries will overrule the desire of a few rogue states to start a war of aggression against Libya. NATO calls itself a "defensive" alliance, but no one in the world sees any defense going on here -- not even a defense of the "civilians" that NATO talked about to the UN.

Maybe the ICC will have to give NATO leaders amnesty and a safe haven in some neutral country in exchange for a cessation of the killing. Cameron, Sarkozy, and Obama could take up residence at the "Fletcher Memorial Home . . ."
