RNC Attendee Throws Food at Black Woman, 'This Is How We Feed Animals!'

By Jorge Rivas, Colorlines

29 Agust 12

t 8:35pm EST Monday night journalist David Shuster tweeted he had just seen a Republican National Convention (RNC) attendee throw nuts at a black CNN camera woman while yelling "this is how we feed animals."

Shuster's tweet went viral and in a matter of hours was re-tweeted more than 6,000 times, ultimately leading to CNN releasing an official statement confirming the incident.

Talking Points Memo's Kyle Leighton explains he "generally confirmed" the tweet with a CNN official but the cable news network's written response does not mention the employees gender or race.

CNN's written statement to Talking Points Memo:

"CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment."

GOP convention spokesman Kyle Downey told Politico, "Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Thei

r conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated."

It is not clear whether the alleged racist nut thrower was a delegate or someone attending the convention in some other capacity.

What's clear is the incident won't make it any easier for Mitt Romney to get black voters behind him.

A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that 0 percent of black voters surveyed support Romney.

And let's not even mention Voter ID laws championed by GOP leaders that studies show will make it harder (if not impossible) for black voters to get inside polling booths. Or the voter vigilante efforts.

Tonight's GOP convention highlights include the ceremonial book burning and the traditional witch hunt! What a ticket they have: Adolf and Benito.

Now we know why they need all that money, and America is at war with every single one of these rich a-holes and corporations that sent their money out there, and we need to know and remember who they are and not spend out money with them ever again. This is supposed to be how America works, and Democrats better damn well start getting it through their heads instead of just waiting around to see how much worse it can get.

Democrats are always late to the party, brux. They want to believe that there are people on the other side negotiating in good faith. President Obama wanted to believe that during the first 2 years of his administration, but every attempt he made at bipartisanship with the Regressives was thrown back in his face.

And on the issue of racism, on a scale of 1 to 100, it's hard to say how much of their hatred is aimed at Obama's skin color and how much at Dems in general. Regressives hate both, but they utterly despise and do not respect Barack Obama one iota, and have sought to embarrass him at every turn - from the 'You lie" shoutout at his State Of The Union address, to guns at his speeches, to the Trump "Birther" nonsense recently reinforced by Rmoney's "No one's ever asked to see my birth certificate" JOKE (?).

I'm sure some Dems hate Black people, but racism is alive and well in the Regressive party and it ALWAYS surfaces. A POX on all of these bastards.

Just when you think these evil bastards can't get any lower...SHEEZ!! ! CAGE THESE TWO IN THE LOCAL JAIL FOR A LONG TIME!!! Worse yet, some IDIOTS are actually accusing the Dems' of "planting them" there in the crowd...GIMME A BREAK!! OBAMA 2012...4 MORE YEARS!!!!

This incident is so characteristic (of the Reps) yet 'uninventable' that it MUST have really happened!

Expected behavior from some drunk attendee--big deal. However, isn't it really interesting how CNN gags itself as to some salient details of the ugly incident? Your mainstream media in action. Not quite all the news. Calling the behavior deplorable, CNN leaves it to us to guess exactly what they might find "deplorable." Cowardly Network Newsmongers are deplorable.

Why are we looking for an official CNN response? Is it too hard to ask the person that it happened to? After every incident, the media runs around interviewing everyone and their mother. The Trayvon Martin killing was just an example. How long was it before ANYONE interviewed the arresting officers or the killer himself, George Zimmerman?

The GOP and CNN are trying to put lipstick on this pig - much like their fake outrage about Todd Akin's "legimitate rape" comments. It's in their DNA ya'll, and just bursting to get out.

In the 2008 election a black sound guy was told, "Move, boy" by an attendee at a GOP rally. The racist atmosphere is fomented from the top.

+25 # tigerlille 2012-08-29 21:41
That attendee should have been arrested for harassment. And why is CNN soft pedaling this? Disgusting. This is an important story.

I wish the rest of the country would show the common sense and discernment that the Black community are exhibiting.

CNN is desperate because polls are showing much higher ratings for BOTH Fox and MSNBC. But that reflects the country, which is truly divided -- there may be technically "Independent" voters, but in terms of attitudes the center is pretty empty, between two opposing sides.

It is frightening to hear of more and more Americans losing sanity. Ethics are out the window. Anything goes, just don't get caught. If you do get caught, buy your way out of trouble or plead insanity (ironic when you really are insane!) Nothing is your fault--the other guy shouldn't have messed with you. You couldn't help it, it was the way you were brought up. You didn't mean to do it but the other guy looked suspicious. You were just demonstrating freedom of speech when you trashed that child for having an accent. You didn't think it was stealing to take it because it didn't look like anyone else owned it. It's okay to say degrading things to people who shouldn't be living in your country because they don't look like you.

What can we do?

The animals are the Republican.

My feelings is - THEY AIN'T GOING AWAY, so what are the peaceful patient Democrats doing to do about ANIMALS like these people.

Their two tops leaders are just lying their way through their campaign, and with ANIMALS like these folks on their side, who care.

This is like Hitler's Germany trying to provoke people before the way to hate Jews and other minorities.

I am truly disgusted by Republicans, and I really think if there are any real Republicans left anymore they should switch to Democrat or Independent - or just abstain from voting or giving money.

I just feel the country slipping away from under us. It is going to take action and dedication, maybe not necessarily to Democrats, but we all need some alternative to these neanderthal idiots.

I share your disgust, brux. But the people controlling the Republican party now are not "Conservatives" - they're extremists, radicals, terrorists. Who else would bring guns to a presidential rally, or threaten "2nd Amendment remedies" when they don't get their way, or resort to voter suppression, intimidation, and machine fixing?

There is a place for conservatives, but they're few and far between in the Regressive party now. And, like the compliant Dems, they have not asserted themselves and are watching their party gradually slip away.

Rmoney/Ryan is the ticket from Hell - Mitt's along for the ride - and those who believe Ryan will have no influence are just whistling past the graveyard. Ryan not only produced the Budget from Hell - which will destroy Medicare and the Social Safety Net - he voted with Bush on EVERYTHING, and has introduced extreme abortion legislation with Todd Akin (are we allowed to say that name in polite company?).

While Ryan has been hiding behind that schoolboy image, the posterboy for extremism has been the disgraceful loudmouth Joe Walsh from IL, who used money from his child support payments to fund his 2010 election. He's running against the Iraqi double-amputee, Tammy Duckworth, and has said she's "not a true hero" because she talks "too much" about her disabilities.

It's official: the INMATES are running the asylum!

Where is the mention of that large crowd of people in cowboy hats yelled USA when the delegate from Porto Rico came to the mic not giving her a chance to speak ? The stupid chair person had to keep asking for them to give her respect and let her talk several times before they finally quieted down !
That whole first day of the Republican Convention showed the world how corrupt and racist their party is !
Maybe they didn't say those things themselves but all along they have been pandering to these racists and stirring up the hate meter ,to me that makes them responsible for the actions of this crowd !

Wealthy Americans were NUTS to agitate The Mob, when they already had Obama working for them. Billionaires can be racists.

Wouldn't it be nice if the nominee and his "take responsibility - we will lead" wunderkinder addressed this behavior? Imagine what that would have done to the image of the nominee - kind, open, gentle principled MItt? If Ryan spoke even for a minute on this point, denouncing the behavior as offensive and intolerable, leading as he claims to do, I am sure the convention would have given him a thunderous (you fill in the blank). And if Mitt would condemn the racist views in the Republican Party, he will have defined himself to the American people better than his wife even hoped to do. Ryan showed his yellow streak. Now let's see if Romney puts his tail between his legs or takes on the bigots.

Every time I think they can't get any lower they prove me wrong and dig themselves even deeper into the slime pit that is the gop these days. Maybe "Greedy Onerous Perverts" is what the gop has become, and even that's not descriptive enough. I truly fear for the country, every one of us, for our children and grandchildren, if they manage to steal this election.

Please, please, everybody, VOTE DEM, and do everything you can to defeat the pigs' tactics to disenfranchise those likely to vote Dem. Work to GET OUT THE DEM VOTE!

How could she take video when she was the camerawoman? I know the obvious answer is, of course, is that it was happening to her but, have you ever tried to use one of those T.V. sized cameras? Especially on such short notice. I think the footage thing is a ridiculous argument but the way they kept it under wrps was deplorable. I saw it yesterday morning and it wasn't until almost noon that CNN confirmed it.

["David Shuster tweeted he had just seen a Republican National Convention (RNC) attendee throw nuts at a black CNN camera woman---" quote from article]. So who said or wrote anything about camera footage in this article?
Monkey see, monkey do (with apologies to monkeys and all animals).
It's Homo Sapiens that really knows how to spread hate and intolerance -divide and conquer- without reason. Some, like the peanut-chucker and many of those in power and their handlers (Karl Rove and Ryan spring readily to mind) should be re-labeled as human cannibals, fed by devouring the less powerful, less fortunate and more vulnerable of their own species.

Let's get real here, animals would never behave so shamelessly!
The GOP thrives on lies; why should we expect even an ounce of truth from Mitt's lips tonight?
Don't hold your breath!

Tampa officials emptied out a 1700 bed jail to lock up protesters - why didn't this jackass get a reserved bed? In KY a Repub male beat the crap out of a Dem woman and Repubs said "Oh these things will happen." That jackass didn't go to jail either. Have the repubs bought every police force in the country?

The surprise here is that any black person would be at the convention. It is very dangerous to go among the kind of people the republican convention attracts.
