Canadian resources have been raped and pillaged for American use for decades. Check out where your raw timber, water, hydroelectric power, oil, already comes from. You may not be urinating in our water on our property, but our government has been selling it to you at discounted prices, along with everything else you ever wanted, since long before NAFTA (an agreement where we basically sigened it way for ever). If we ever said NO MORE, America can retaliate. How secure do you think our border would be? I am not a pipeline fan, but dont be deluded into thinking this is a CANADIAN project. Good grief! Businesses know no boundaries and keep strange bedfellows....

It is DICK Cheney you should be thanking for this. Remember the energy policy committee that met behind closed doors and the DICK never would release the names of those who attended and who wrote our energy policy. The policy that relieves oil companies of any responsibility required under the burdensome Clean Water Act. The republicans don't care how they make their their money, just so long as they make it.

I still believe it is very important to vote for Obama and not Romney. I would rather protest Obama's policies and not Romney's. In regards to this article, it says nothing about when permission was granted (or by who) for groundbreaking to start in Texas. When did that happen?

This is Obama's sell out to the oil oligarchy. He knows where his money comes from. Romney would be worse but Obama is bad enough. Oil from tar sand is a bad technology. It is too environmentally destructive to mine at all. Oil from tar cannot be recovered unless the price of crude oil remains close to $100 a barrel. Without government subsidy, there would not even be tar recovery. This is just a bad business on all fronts. Leave the tar alone. Replace fossil fuel with renewable energy. Shift the investments from the pipeline and tar operations to wind, solar, geo-thermal and other renewables. Why isn't Obama moving in this direction? Campaign bribes -- that's why. Is this any different than a Rommey would be. Only a little different. In the end, they are the same. Canadian tar will cross the US to refineries in Texas and gas to China and Japan.

How can anyone vote for someone who has signed the Tar sand pipeline and the Indefinite detention? If the alternative is even worse - so be it! There will be no change in US before you have flooding of Manhattan, burned- down Colorado, zero corn harvest, and oil spill in the Arctic. And now we want to go to Mars to destroy yet another planet! Now, when they have found the Higgs particle in Switzerland and understand the diversity of nature and the origin of mankind, let´s start from scratch and hopefully do it better the second time.

Bull-Puckey by ANY other name REMAINS Bull-Pucky! They can call themselves whatever they want it doesn't change the fact that TransCanada will be destroying Aquifers and polluting land they have no right to poison! WHY have we no voice to protect ourselves from Foreign interests who will Rape our land and leave us polluted and abused with NO recourse? This is OUTRAGEOUS and should NOT be allowed. Can we go to Canada and Urinate or Defecate in THEIR Water supply? This is INSANITY! WHY have we NO power over what DIRECTLY affects US? Just curious.

Obama can't be trusted. The only campaign promise he has kept is the one I didn't want him to keep - to triple troop strength in Afghanistan. A vote for Obama just reinforces the assumption of the Democratic "leadership" that they may act with impunity, that progressives will vote for them, regardless of the actual policies they pursue. As for myself, I am voting for Dr. Jill Stein, the Green Party presidential candidate. Obama could have easily earned my vote, but he chose not to. He has chosen to not prosecute Wall Street. (Even Reagan jailed over 200 bankers.) He has not closed Guantanamo (Even Bush II released more prisoners there.) He has signed the NDAA provisions into law that totally reject fundamental Constitutional Rights. Obama has called for an austerity budget that would cut $4 Trillion out, primarily from social programs, and plunge us into a worse recession. Some say the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. Why should one expect anything different from Obama or the Democratic "leaders" when their awful behavior is rewarded?

This is heartbreaking news. Although I had thought that I was actively following all XL Pipeline news, somehow I didn't know that they had won permission to break ground in Texas. I knew they were redefining their strategy to build in segments, get permission in segments. I didn't know it was a done deal. I am voting for you Obama. I am a staunch supporter of you. But once you win a 2nd term, you have got to remember the promises that originally got you elected. Do you really want the responsibility of being the man to approve this hugely destructive mistake that our environment is in no condition to sustain?
